#IVF involves removing eggs from the ovaries and combining them with collected sperm in a petri dish for fertilization.
This doesn't always result in a healthy embryo that can be implanted in the uterus.
Thus, doctors will typically fertilize #multiple#eggs simultaneously to increase the odds of a healthy embryo developing.
🔸If you consider each frozen embryo a "child," doctors need to create just one embryo at a time, reducing the likelihood of a successful procedure.
🔸Or create extra embryos that are never implanted, requiring the embryos to be stored indefinitely at the cost of $1,000 per year.
Any mistakes by a fertility clinic that result in the destruction of an embryo could result in murder charges.
Some Alabama fertility clinics are continuing to operate under these new restrictions. The Fertility Institute of North Alabama, for example, is continuing to offer IVF but plans "to fertilize fewer eggs to avoid the risks associated with discarding unused embryos."
This will both increase the price of the procedure, which already costs $10,000, and decrease the likelihood of success.

So I’ve been using Jellyfin for a while now. I have a NAS running with a jellyfin server and I watch stuff on my PC or on my TV. This is concerning the TV… As is often the case with these low-to-mid tier smart TVs, the OS is slow and the UX terrible. The network adapter is also bad. Jellyfin and everything else about the UI...
I haven’t branched out much, I’m afraid. Using the default Kodi theme, only split by TV/movies, and I just created a new jellyfin account specifically for Kodi.
However, this page says that you create Kodi profiles for each user, then you can log each one in to jellyfin under their own profile. This lets you use the native Kodi users for switching between jellyfin users. But it does sound like a bit of work to set up.
I am completely failingto replicate in quarto something I liked from xaringan+xaringanExtra. I want to show a directory tree and highlight one of the lines whilst showing some additional text. I don't seem to be able to retain the monospace, properly indented for all the text and change one part of it.
I’ve got an old AMD Phenom II system in a 2U rackmount case that I want to run Jellyfin on. I need to add a graphics card so I can hook a monitor to it for troubleshooting etc., so I figure while I’m at it I ought to find something I can pass through for hardware-accelerated transcoding....
All this is starting to make me think I should give up the whole Jellyfin on-the-fly transcoding malarkey entirely, and just batch-transcode my whole library using an external tool and add them back in using the “multiple versions of a movie” thing instead (trading off needing a GPU for using extra hard drive space).
I think the solution is to get hardware-accelerated transcoding set up correctly.
Either that, or maybe bulk-transcode all your media outside of Jellyfin and then add it all back as alternate versions and hope Jellyfin is smart enough to choose the best supported version automatically?
(I’m in the process of setting up a Jellyfin server and noticing the same issue with some of my media.)
A problem many have realized is that there are many /tech, /gaming etc. communities in different instances/servers. There is already https://fediverse.observer/ , so I think it wouldn't be too hard to make a service that periodically roams the fediverse, checks for example the last 100,000 submissions of each (or top 100 active...
If anyone has followed this discussion recently about "thegx.ca" #spammer / follower, they just raised their ugly head with the following reply. I'm not including links and such, as I don't want to propagate their nonsense and their account(s) (see screenshot).
They also used the wrong Feditips account (which I forwarded).
Evidently, creating multiple #accounts on #multiple#instances, following the SAME people over and over is not #spam.
By the way, their account promotes gambling.

OC xscreensaver appears only on one of two monitors
I have a Debian Bullseye system, ASUS PN53 (built in Radeon graphics) with two monitors, one connected via HDMI and one using a USB-C adapter....
What's the cheapest low-profile GPU for hardware transcoding?

make dumb TV work with subscriptions
I have a dumb TV, and a spare computer. I want a nice easy way to interface with several services. (Jellyfin, disney+ etc)...
