I've been seeing so many different cats, that I keep getting the "10,000-Year Earworm to Discourage Settlement Near Nuclear Waste Repositories" song by Emperor X stuck in my head:

https://emperorx.bandcamp.com/album/10000-year-earworm-to-discourage-settlement-near-nuclear-waste-repositories

In case you don't know the story: this song was commissioned by the 99 Percent Invisible podcast for their episode on how to warn people in the far future to stay away from nuclear waste deposits.

The idea is that no civilisation existed for as long as the time that radioactive waste remains dangerous. Hence, we need ways to warn people that are robust for lost of language, symbols, etc.

One idea was to breed cats that light up in the presence of radiation, and to then create a folk song about the importance of keeping cats, and the importance of leaving (with the cat) when the cat changes colour.

Hence "don't change colour, kitty".

Here, the local paper details how a new agreement dodges cleanup obligations to save money. This puts countless generations at risk.

This is what the former Soviet nuclear submarine «Komsomolets» looks like – 30 years after it sank in the Norwegian Sea. The submarine lies on a depth of nearly 1700 metres, and it was filmed by the ROV «Ægir 6000» on July 7th 2019.

Not only has used fuel been stored safely for decades, it can be reprocessed into fuel for the future.

Used fuel safely stored could potentially power us for centuries, via fast breeder reactors. No more mining needed, solving the waste problem at the same time.

musictraveler,

@collectifission

🤦🏻‍♀️ When nuclear waste is so safe stored why many storage facilities in are closed because of the great danger of those storage facilities

And when the myth of reusing the nuclear waste would be based on reality why are the storage facilities are not being emptied🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s all nice propaganda of the tax money wasting and nothing else

as it exists now is still extremely dangerous and uncontrolled

musictraveler,
@musictraveler@mastodon.online avatar

@ElTico @collectifission

Thanks that is a very nice offer but I guess I had already enough official scientific sources to get my information from

But feel free to have your own opinion I’m perfectly fine with it, everyone is free to believe whatever they want 🤷🏻‍♀️

musictraveler,

@kravietz

You are absolutely right that we are living at least for this subject in a different world 🤷🏻‍♀️

For me the most interesting and amazing about this is to see how good and effective the Nuclear Energy industry and Nuclear lobbyists are working with their propaganda

Nothing has changed in the danger of Nuclear Energy and its waste but at once more and more people seems to embrace Nuclear Power without any knowledge about the reality

musictraveler,
@musictraveler@mastodon.online avatar

@dynode @kravietz

I have to admit that is indeed all very interesting as I know very well out of own experiences

And it’s nice for you that your interest and work inside the Nuclear business made you embracing everything what has to do with

But it still did not change my opinion and you have no idea about my knowledge on which I base my opinion🤷🏻‍♀️ But that doesn’t matter because I do not have to convince you
