Ooh, another good test case for satellite search and rescue if the timing was correct on satellite passes. Woman successfully rescued in May... Walked away from her tour group and spent an afternoon, a night and part of a day wandering around Artists Drive in Death Valley National Park. Wandered out into the desert on May 9th, found May 10th, 2024. Need to check the satellite archives... #SearchAndRescue#SAR#RemoteImaging https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/news/sar-2024-05-10.htm
LOL apparently it's the most exciting day so far for my son (medic, working the search and rescue copter today)... apparently people are getting hurt left and right out in the wilderness. #VenturaCounty#SearchAndRescue#SAR
Did you ever wonder how @awi 's airborne laser scanner data can help classifying #Arctic sea ice surfaces from high-resolution #SAR data? Can the satellite 🛰️ data tell us whether there is open water, level or deformed ice? Check out this new paper! #MOSAiCexpedtion ➡️ https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-18-2207-2024
Missing persons seearch at the Grand Canyon National Park.
On April 21, 2024, a vehicle belonging to Thomas L. Robison of Santa Fe, NM was found abandoned at Lees Ferry within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Thomas Robison, 58, is believed to have attempted to travel down the Colorado River with his small dog on a wooden raft.
Robison is described as a white male, 5’10” in height and 160 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Anyone who may have seen Thomas Robison are asked to contact Grand Canyon Dispatch at 928-638-7805. A missing person investigation is on-going and no further information is available at this time.
Yikes, you can see the rapids from space... Not far from Lee's Ferry. That homemade raft is no match for this one.... #GrandCanyon#rapids#SearchAndRescue#SAR
Umbra SAR layers are exactly where this guy went missing (in 2005, mind you). Conceivably the camera would have lasted from 2005 and be detectable with enough resolution of a synthetic aperture radar. #SAR#SearchAndRescue#MichaelFicery#Yosemite
Looks like it is only by accident that Umbra is acquiring data in that location, not related to this case, but did let them know they had picked a good spot anyway. If there are any Yosemite SAR folks who have any interest in a project, ping me. #Yosemite#SAR#SearchAndRescue#NPS
Interesting, someone pushed the SOS button tonight on some kind of satellite device for a rescue up above Ojai (apparently rescued with no injuries) #VenturaCounty#SAR
Montrose Search and Rescue: "Today, our team responded to a vehicle over the side call on Angeles Forest Hwy at MM 19.36. The vehicle was about 300' over the side. By the time our unit arrived on scene, the patient had self-extricated and was on the roadway. The roadway was wet and slick. This weekend, we have had two other weather-related calls. One hiker was suffering from exposure in the snow and two cyclists needed to be rewarmed by us. When the weather is excessively cold, hot, windy, rainy, etc, please reconsider your plans to visit the wilderness. " #SearchAndRescue#SAR#OTS
11 adults and 3 dogs rescued from the Sespe River Trail on Saturday, March 30th.
"The recent storm over the weekend caused major impacts to the Sespe Trail in the Los Padres National Forest. Rain caused water levels in the Sespe River to rise quickly leaving hikers stranded in harsh conditions. Ground units from the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department were unable to safely access the areas to lead the groups to safety. Two separate rescue helicopters were dispatched to the area. "
It turns out I did have imaging for the find location. Likely here. Would have been tough as you have to do an A/B Google Earth 3D view to see any difference in the scene. Definitely would have required a ground search/confirmation of possible signatures. #SearchAndRescue#SAR#satellite#remoteimaging
