I interviewed Michelle Yeoh a few years ago about and I mentioned offhand that I'd written an article about what seeing her use her accent on the bridge of a starship meant to me.

She stopped and said "Wait, that was YOU?"

And then proceeded to talk about how much that article had meant to HER and how it contributed to the success of the show.

I can't think about it without crying.

Jonathan Frakes on Directing Next Generation, Lower Decks

This interview goes assorted places, but it has a small interesting bit about next year's Discovery finale.

“I directed the first half of the finale of Season 5, which turned out to be the real finale... And then [‘Discovery’ executive producer and director] Olatunde Osunsanmi had to go back up and do two or three days of new stuff to actually make the finale the finale." https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/jonathan-frakes-star-trek-director-strange-new-worlds-lower-decks-crossover-1235680140/

I haven’t seen a lot of #StarTrekDiscovery discussions on my home feed, despite the fact that I follow a good many #StarTrek hashtags and Trekkies. Is nobody watching the final season?

Saw a comment today that said essentially, is canceling and , the only two shows exploring new ideas in the Star Trek Universe, making Trek into another franchise running on nostalgia, running on fumes, and I couldn't agree more.

Could somebody explain to me, briefly, what Book did to Burnham? I missed season 4 and don't know if it’s something I would find inexcusable or if I should be team love conquers all.

me: has a 21:9 computer screen

Star Trek Discovery: is presented in 21:9

Paramount+: provides Discovery in 1920×1080 with black bars at the top & bottom

my screen: adds black bars to the left & right

ah yes, the fullscreen experience 🙄

(pirated copies usually come in real 21:9 without these black bars btw…)

Oh, and this is not just a Discovery problem. It's the same for the other 21:9 shows like SNW and Prodigy (when it still was on Paramount+).

I’m behind a full season of so I’m positive I’ll probably be spoiled before the end of the series. The sad part though is I don’t think I care.

The show got better near the end of S3 but honestly I still don’t like the way Bernham has treated Saru. The show’s never really felt like to me either, and for my money the best thing to come out of it was Pike and Strange New Worlds.

I know a lot of you out there love it tho, so you do you. I’m happy for ya. Enjoy! 🖖

#CosmicStories blog post by @Tiylaya

Gone (but not forgotten?)

While some science fiction imagines humanity alone in the universe, other stories imagine that life just like our own is plentiful outside our Solar System. One common thread in such stories is the idea of precursor civilisations - ancient races that lived, died and passed out of general knowledge long before humanity took to the stars.

Wait - why is the FINAL SEASON EVER of Star Trek Discovery only 10 episodes long ?

Gah !!

At every step, Paramount Execs have done this show DIRTY.

Sheer disrespect.

Today is the day Star Trek: Discovery, THE BEST OF THE NEW 'TREKS*, returns for the final 10-episode tour of her fateful five-year mission. It's been 2 looong years since the last episode aired, but apart from an early scry of some starship screenshots months ago I have resisted every single tiny bit of spoilerific content so I can immerse myself fully unprepared for the delights to come.

Here's hoping it is 10 episodes of Trek perfection, a fitting send-off for (and from) a crew and cast I've come to love.

I'm ready for this on a cellular level: Let's Fly!

Some folk wrote off "Discovery" as "not Trek" when it hit screens in 2017. As the final season begins, Salon looks at the evolution of the show, and the journey of protagonist Michael Burnham. "It will take a lot of convincing for some people to consider Burnham among the top ranks of Starfleet captains in those occasional fan polls that tend to place Jean-Luc Picard or James T. Kirk in the top positions," says writer Melanie McFarland, after making an argument for exactly that.

In the current season of Star Trek: Discovery, there have been two lines of dialogue that have made me want to throw something at the TV, both of which involved the same word, "solve", used as a noun, and both uttered by Captain Burnham.

"Do we have a solve for this?"

"OK, so what's the solve?"

What sort of fresh hell is this? What's wrong with the perfectly cromulent word "solution"? The writer(s) responsible for this abomination should be sacked.
