In a just world, the #LowerDecks creatives would get as many seasons of the show as they want to write, and be promoted to run all of the #StarTrek IP.
They have demonstrated a consistent understanding of what makes Trek unique and powerful, while breaking new ground. It is the most successful writing since DS9 imo.
This would be much more exciting to me than the endless spreadsheet fan service dreck of Picard/“Legacy”
(much as Jeri Ryan deserves as much work as she wants)
The first two seasons wasted everyone's time and were a disservice to Sonequa Martin Green, who should have just been fucking captain from jump
it worked out in the end because the speculative premise of #StrangeNewWorlds—what if Captain Pike was hot?—is a worthwhile exploration whose scope they expanded to the entire crew, to our shared benefit
back a million years ago, a local theater was playing Wrath of Khan, and some friends talked me into going with them. since I'd never watched Star Trek before, I have retained exactly zero of this movie
I still feel a little silly for not having realized earlier than, like, season 4 of #TNG that Noonien Soongh is a different person than Khan Noonien-Singh. another issue with having started out of order ... when I started my TNG watch, all I knew about Khan (besides that there was a movie about him) was what was in #StrangeNewWorlds. I also didn't have a very good grasp on the timeline of the different series (including the 100-year gap)
Since I didn’t have a subscription to streaming music service, I would just listen to the #StarTrek#StrangeNewWorlds musical episode Subspace Rhapsody via Paramount+. Recently I activated a music trial and was surprised to learn that there are a lot more lyrics to Keeping Secrets. I wonder why it was truncated in broadcast version vs. soundtrack version. I also wonder if any of the other songs were truncated. Extended lyrics below; soundtrack version in brackets.
I'm doing a #StarTrekEnterprise rewatch since I have only watched it once before. I don't think it deserves the negative reputation it holds. Yeah, there are issues but it still does something new with Trek that wasn't just "more TNG".
One thing that has really jumped out at me is how many episodes are allowed to just do their own thing, only to be revisited if that idea is popular. With 24 full length episodes each season, you kinda have to do that. #StarTrekPicard, #StarTrekDiscovery, and #StrangeNewWorlds aren't written that way. That makes them much higher risk/reward propositions.
I usually prefer that kind of narrative structure but Enterprise made me see there is a downside to it too. The episode "North Star" wouldn't appear in most Trek shows today. It's a Western about the crew discovering a human colony who was abducted by aliens 300 years ago then overthrew their abductors to make a space Wild West town without technology. I had no idea that the actors or director could pull that kind of thing off but it's one of the best Enterprise episodes even though it doesn't advance the plot at all. It's just a detour to be weird based on sets they had access to.
#StarTrek has had a timeline problem with the Eugenics Wars since the mid-90s. We just watched #strangenewworlds S2 E3 last night and I gotta say, the writers did a nice job on the ret-Khan.
One of the things I’m really enjoying about #StarTrek#strangenewworlds is the extent to which giving a character a whiff of backstory or internal motivation or story focus is NOT the loud ticking of a deathwatch beetle. Characters get backstories and then SURVIVE. It’s wild. I love it. #iflytheship
Filming for ep2 of #StrangeNewWorlds Season 3 is done, with Dan Liu now taking the helm for ep3. Director Jordan Canning shared a new photo & message on insta:
"That's a wrap on 302, and I'm missing it already. Didn't think I could possibly love this show, this cast, and this crew more than I already did. Can't wait to share our truly epic episode when it's all done 🖖🏼"
Trying out #DuckDuckGo as I've heard a few people suggest it, and I've definitely had enough of #Google at this stage (I think the #GBNews intrusion was the last straw). The search results are pretty good, and I'm gonna stick with it for now. The security side of things is a huge bonus!
Also the fact that it got a shout out in #StrangeNewWorlds helped to seal the deal 😂
Beautiful. Common phrases in narrative responses to the question "What do you like best about #StarTrek?" from my survey data. Especially tickled that "gay space communism" made it onto the top 20 list.
(common words/stopwords such as "in", "the", "of" etc have been removed)
This is the build I focused on for most of the long lockdown of 2020. It began with the #SaucerSection which I'd always planned to build to minifigure/playset scale. As time passed I expanded to the rest of the ship, bulk-buying parts online as I went. If you zoom in you will see the scale of the #Minifigures in the various sections...
