My "new" off-brand Walkman showed up today! It works, though it definitely needs some attention - loads of wow and flutter and noise, too much even for something like this.

This is the next #cassette deck in the queue for refurb. The #JVC KD-85 is a real rarity in the UK, particularly in 'native' 240V form, rather than an import from Japan or the US.
It's a hell of a thing for the #70s (1978) and the #tape transport is one of the best ever made. Definitely a rival for any #Nakamichi I've owned when it comes to playback.

It's 2024 and I just bought an S-VHS #VCR along with a standalone #tape rewinder. I'm part of a test group for a #popculture preservation project to digitise and archive #70s, #80s and #90s#TV ads and local news etc. before the tapes deteriorate to the point where they're unusable.

While other artists and labels were whining that 'Home Taping is Killing Music' the #B-52's were insisting that their #cassette releases were available in versions specifically encouraging people to record other #music on side 2 of the album, on actual Chrome #tape no less!

I have a whole to-do list after listening to it on repeat. 😅
This will fit on one side of the cassette, which leaves Side B free for all of the original tracks without the dialogue and my screwing them up, lol. The intention is for people to make mixtapes and remixes of any and everything on the album.
The whole album will be releaded under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 creative commons license to enable this.
I have been working on a new release the last weeks,
talking with the bands, doing the layout, sending the files to the factory…
Everything is ready, paid, and I should receive the package in a couple of days!
This release will be on pro tape (again) and will feature two bands from Finland between old death metal and grind.

Hätte nicht gedacht, dass "Wenn ihr irgendwelche großen Pappkartons habt, ich nehme die gerne" so viele Sympathiepunkte bei Familie, Freunden und Bekannten bereit hält. Alle waren froh ihren Papiermüll los zu werden. Sollte häufiger eine gigantische Pappburg für einen #Kindergeburtstag zusammen klöppeln, das ist ein echtes Win-Win-Win-Gebastel.
Die Kids werden das farbenfrohe Gebilde so grandios runter rocken, das wird ein Spaß, hoffentlich :o)
This new (last) #Beatles song '#NowAndThen' is really quite good. And it's totally amazing how they grabbed #JohnLennon's vocal from an old #Cassette#Tape. The band really did get back together one last time.
