Marveling at the world

Lots of Martian rocks and landscapes, some looking all too familiar, but don't be fooled by that: Mars is an inhospitable toxic planet. Let's not mistake fiction for reality.

I like dirt and rocks, but I Am Not A Geologist (IANAG).

Here is a better interview of Geoffrey Hinton on PBS News Hour, where he articulates his concerns better and in more words. IMO there are still huge leaps of logic in his belief that these systems have "understanding" and can be dangerous on their own, i.e. without humans programming and setting goals for them, which gets the tech giants creating them (and gaining enormous political power) off the hook, as if suddenly dropped from the sky.

Report Sol: 1023
Ls: 176

Temperature ranges in the past 10 sols:
Highs: -11.3 to -5.1°C
Lows: -74.7 to -71.1°C

-5.1°C on Sol 1018 seems to be this year's highest temperature, excluding the gap during the conjunction. Atmospheric pressure has been increasing rapidly, in par with the increase during the same period of the last Martian year.

These days, "several minutes" of weightlessness in a suborbital flight as a tourist, makes you an "astronaut". Multiply that by 60, and it already sounds a lot better: "several hundred seconds of weightlessness"!

Being part of a publicity stunt means those "astronauts" have to make a few statements to the press, like "space is really becoming more accessible", whether they or anybody else believes that.

Whatever.

What is proper to say for , an anthropomorphism but nonetheless an expression of love, is that it stayed in the battlefield erect and functioning until the very end.

The is still alive, and we'll probably be hearing about it for as long as it has power to transmit its beacon and continues to devote a few minutes of 's time every sol to listening for it, which may be well into Martian autumn.

What a journey this has been!

So not only stops humanitarian aid from being distributed to Palestinians in , not only murders children and civilians, annihilates hospitals and infrastructure, but also kills the cooks who go there trying to feed starving kids? And whoever criticizes this Nazi-like war criminality is silenced as an anti-Semite?

The Goebbels inspired propaganda machine has worked wonders, it seems. At the expense of the Holocaust and Jews worldwide.

From a 500m high spot on Jezero's rim, an Ingenuity class SRH with the same Zigbee radio as the one now installed on the will be able to have workable radio links with the SRL or within a ~14km LOS radius, using the same type antennas as the quarter wave monopoles now in use. This means that the scouting range of the two MSR SRHs can be about 1/3 of Jezero's diameter, a vast area compared to what the heli can do now.

🧵 It feels inappropriate to argue on such matters on a Day of Remembrance, but since such a day became a stage for distorting truth and the essence of the , it seems necessary to do so.

In his speech Biden drew a parallel, comparing murdering 6000000 during the Holocaust to ' 1200 Israeli victims during the Oct 7 attack. That was a x5000 stretch of truth and logic, without counting the 35000+ victims of horrible thirty-eyes-for-an-eye retaliation,
