@arstechnica If I was Stack Overflow I would be very worried about what this ruling means: "X Corp. wants it both ways: to keep its safe harbors yet exercise a copyright owner’s right to exclude, wresting fees from those who wish to extract and copy X users’ content," Alsup wrote.

If Stack Overflow wants to argue their terms of service override the copyright ownership of their users, then they better get ready to say goodbye to Section 230 protections.

@jeffjarvis While I agree with them in the short term, I wonder about the long. Suppose a well-funded activist group willfully disrupts multiple campuses for days, weeks, or months? Where is the line? This is not an academic question, as it may be the plan.

@shoq @Lady_Thistle @jeffjarvis I think the word “disrupts” here is too soft to be useful. Getting closer with “destructive disruption” but that still leaves plenty of room to excuse the in group while banning the out group. If you are keeping me from getting to class and exercising my academic freedom, then you have crossed the line. But merely making me uncomfortable while I am on my way to class? Too bad for me. Honestly, I would’ve thought we knew where the line was by this point.

@nyquildotorg I spent almost two hours yesterday searching through my house for a box with a fan I got about 2 months ago to replace the broken one on my grill. I finally gave up, sat down and cracked open a beer resigned to the fact I would have to order another one. Half way through the can I finally remembered I installed the fan 3 weeks ago. My brain was so focused on remembering where I put the box that I couldn’t remember I already installed the fan. The brain is weird.

@shoq somehow we think we are any different than Putin’s Russia. Yes, on the surface we are, but I suspect we would be more than willing to acquiesce to a dictator with 70% turnout and 70% of the vote all without mass protests and riots in the street. Ugh, I am depressing this evening. Ignore this.

It’s been over three months since told us our electric vehicles would explode and we shouldn’t charge them or park them indoors. Still no updates. Still Required to drive around with 500 pounds of deadweight burning gas. Still getting my brand new paint job ruined sitting in the sun.

@shoq the only way this would make sense is if the filler cost just as much as the active ingredient. In which case, burn the whole system down because that price per bottle is outrageous.

Met a young couple tonight with a 5 year old and we got to talking and reminiscing about that age. It is an amazing time in a young child’s and parent’s life. My daughter is a Junior now but was in Kindergarten when Sandy Hook happened. Her teacher at the time was about the same age as Victoria Soto. To this day, I still can’t understand how badly we have failed. Have we made any progress in the past 11 years since that horrible event?

I just remembered the time, in 3rd or 4th grade, when my class spent an hour doing art.

I didn't know it at the time, but the teacher was clearly trying to replicate Bob Ross's style "painting" a mountain scene with happy little trees and what not, using chalk on the chalkboard. The expectation was that all the students would be following along with their crayons on their paper.

But I was like "hey, cool, time to do art," and drew a shockingly good Max Headroom instead.

I got in so much trouble and did not understand why.

Steve Garvey’s problem in the CA Senate debate is that the Republicans are MAGA, and independents are NOT.

This forces Garvey to avoid taking positions. He’s damned no matter what.

Wild Card: CA has a jungle primary and the result will probably be the Garvey will not make the top 2. So in the General Election it will be Schiff against Porter.

That’s where you put your wager. Garvey is not even a player.

The healthcare system in the United States is completely broken when it takes three days of calls to refill a routine insulin prescription and we can’t get it approved. We now have to go the weekend without until offices open back up. If anyone is working on burning this mother fucker to the ground, please let me know. Happy to bring kindling.

Can this palm tree be saved? It survived the heat die offs the last couple of years here. But this year summer was really intense, over 110 Fahrenheit for something like 20+ days and a really late first rain storm. We kept it watered but every palm branch has browned. Experts, Googlers, Trolls and Reply Guys welcome to respond.
