Donald Trump promised to free a major drug trafficker tonight. Think anyone in the media will bother to ask his bootlicker endorsers in the Fraternal Order of Police how they feel about this? Will the media even cover that Trump is promising to pardon a major drug and sex trafficker?

I think Activision has been just as consequential to gaming as Nintendo.

Perhaps more so, in fact. They popularized the notion of 3rd party publishing.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@atomicpoet I’m curious, are pinball machines and their arcade game predecessors considered by the gaming community as part of the video game lineage? Or does the gaming community view the history of video games as only going back to the dawn of the computer age?

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@atomicpoet I realize this is probably a lot like asking if games are sports. But growing up with video arcades that included space invaders, asteroids, pac man, and pinball machines, they all seem to be connected to me. Video game consoles were just an evolution from PC gaming, which were an evolution from arcades.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@atomicpoet I guess I am asking as I don’t often see people who talk about retro gaming also talk about the pre-computer era.

Archnemysis,

@Green_Footballs The interesting thing is it gives permission for the media to cover the libertarian candidates just as much as they cover RFK. I doubt they will give them any oxygen, but it could end up undermining Trump.

Girl with peanut allergy ‘thrown off flight by captain’ via @darnell (Flipboard) 📰 https://www.yahoo.com/news/girl-peanut-allergy-thrown-off-144929061.html

@darnell @darnell That is messed up. Although I do question why the family needed to prevent everyone from eating anything that could have nuts instead of simply wearing a mask. An N95 can easily block peanut dust. We are not talking about some type of microscopic virus. Regardless, the captain was out of line.

“We see you haven’t voted yet. Your voting record is public,” a recent mailer to Texas Republicans says. “Your neighbors are watching and will know if you miss this critical runoff election. We will notify President Trump if you don’t vote. You can’t afford to have that on your record.”

The thing about a "strong" "leader"? Eventually you'll be the one targeted when things get desperate enough. No matter how much you think you are the kind of person who wouldn't be.

@futurebird you’re not wrong, but this tactic didn’t start with Trump. I don’t know when the first research came out that social pressure was a strong GOTV motivator, but 20 years ago when I was still doing campaigns the big GOTV operations were sending similar letters.

When is it OK to change the subject in your reply to a post?

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@evan you definitely have given me something to think about. I chose often, but I think that’s because I look at the social web more like a party. Yes, it is rude to respond to someone’s statement and completely ignore what was said and start something unrelated. But part of what makes conversation happen is the ebb and flow. If I were having a conversation in real life, I wouldn’t walk away from one conversation to start talking about a different subject they might be interested in

Discovered yesterday that Masto embeds do not work on our Drupal site -- as in they are not visible on the public facing page, although they appear fine in the back-end editor. Anybody here know what might be the issue? I embed other <iframe> stuff all the time and have never had this problem before. Any and all suggestions welcome.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@GuerillaOntologist If you inspect the page do you see the embed code in the source and it is just not visible? Or is the iframe tag not even visible in the source?

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@GuerillaOntologist Interesting. This feels to me like some type of CSS issue hiding it or something blocking the Mastodon.social embed.js. I tried on a sandbox on my end and it loaded just fine. In Inspector, under Sources, do you see the source for Mastodon.social and the embed.js file loading?

Qs for sports people.
Why is spiking the after a touchdown frowned upon?

What's the equivalent in after a home run? Is it frowned upon?

NFL had fines & penalties against big endzone celebrations, why?

Do fines for unsportsmanlike conduct work?

How should winners deal with ?

Do fans STOP supporting a player or team if they are a sore loser? Or do they admire them for never accepting defeat?

What should winners do if opponents refuse to accept they lost?

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@spocko The equivalent in baseball after a home run is basically flipping the bat. But there are degrees from a light flip to a full blown throw. The further along that spectrum you are, the more likely the opposing team is to bean you the next time you are at bat.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@spocko that said, I think you’re analogy is closer than you think. The reason end zone celebrations became frowned on was because they got out of hand. At the same time, the defensive equivalent was being penalized. When a defensive player finally gets that sack for a 20 yard loss, they are getting a flag for standing too long over the quarterback.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@spocko There is definitely an imbalance in football between what is allowed by the offense versus the defense. It’s just opposite of our justice system where the defense has wide latitude to celebrate but the prosecution is expected to never celebrate. But given only the prosecution has the power to take away life and liberty, I am fine with that imbalance.

@evan I had an account on CounterSocial years ago when Jester first started it, but never really used it. What's your solution in for note titles that need formatting like bold and italics?
I almost always create separate "Title" (plain text) and "Display Title" (html) fields for content types, but I've never heard anyone else suggest this or seen it in practice. The bonus benefit of this is that it allows the plain text title to be used for sorting while displaying the desired Display Title, like if you want to prepend an emoji to the display title, or prepend an event title with CANCELLED:

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@drupalthoughts
I have no idea why each title would need to be format a differently. Seems to me it would make for a confusing mess of a website if every title is formatted individually.

Not sure if this is or but I really should have paid for the factory half doors for my . All the aftermarket doors just look weak and take away from the overall design of the Jeep. It’s too damn hot in Arizona to have full doors on during the summer but most half doors just look out of place on a Jeep.

Which best describes you?

("records" in this context are shellac, vinyl or resin etc. recorded sound discs played using needle)

If you have some records you can play and others you can't choose the third option.

If you have a player but it's broken choose the first option.

You "own" a player if one is in your home and you can use it when you want.

You "own" records if you are one of the people who must be asked if they were sold or thrown away.

Archnemysis,
@Archnemysis@mastodon.social avatar

@veronica @futurebird Now I am curious, which artist has this distinction of being the only album you own?
