I've just left an acupuncture session and I'm literally shaking. My pain tolerance is pretty high, but this was next level. I felt like I was on the verge of passing out the entire time. This was the first time I've had my hands and legs done, but I've had stomach and face done before.

A question for others who get this treatment, is that normal?

@brooding_bookcase Oh yes, I was quite vocal about the amount of pain I was in, and started to tear up, but she said it was because it was the first session and kept going. The needles were in for about an hour, and at 45 minutes I called her in and said I was feeling woozy. She said it might be my heart and gave me some pills to put under my tongue (which she charged me for after) but didn't offer to adjust the needles at all.

@brooding_bookcase It felt off to me, but now writing all this out it sounds ridiculous! I was quite sad because I thought, if this is just how acupuncture is then there is no way I can do this every week. I think I'll give it another go with a different practitioner.

@ianoji Thanks for this analogy. I have a lot of underlying issues but I'm on a lot of medications and supplements, after about a year of trying to get them right, so I feel fairly confident that I'm not super deficient in anything. I could be wrong though... I am going to give it another try but I think I'll go with a different acupuncturist, I don't feel comfortable with how the communication has happened with this one.

I think what most confuses me about dress codes based on gender is that I literally have no idea what that means. Are โ€œwomenโ€ not allowed to wear pants? Are โ€œmenโ€ not allowed to wear kilts? High heels and leggings used to be commonly worn by โ€œmenโ€ and not โ€œwomenโ€ like 300 years ago... but I guess thatโ€™s womenโ€™s wear now. Like this seems so arbitrary.

The French greet each other with a friendly "bonjour."

In Germany you'll hear, "guten morgen."

Italian mornings are for saying "buongiorno" with a smile.

In our house, however, it's customary to stand next to a sleeping parent and - at full volume and without warning - say, "Where's my school uniform tie?"

First my Twitter bots that use polls got suspended. No indication why.

Then my Twitter bots with less than 20,000 followers got suspended. No indication why.

Then tonight, just now, my personal account @JoeSondow got suspended. No indication why. I appealed, they emailed to say it was reinstated, then it got suspended again 5 minutes later.

My three most popular active bots are still running for now.

I guess I'll be leaving Twitter sooner than later.

Many years ago, I bought a Bird of Paradise at a garden centre. It had lush green leaves and a pefect flower in bloom. I spent the entire summer caring for it, and it was thriving.

I was so proud. It was the first flowering plant I'd managed to keep alive for more than a few months.

One afternoon, someone I had just started dating came over and was browsing my book shelves. He stopped at the plant and...

@erictopol Comorbidity is a huge part of this, too. For example, anemia itself isn't really considered a major health problem, but there are a lot of reports (myself included) that seem to point to Anemia + Covid as a recipe for life-changing long-term effects.

Calling it a gotcha that I "critique Biden policies after voting for him" is what's wrong with US politics today.

Voting for him doesn't mean I can't critique himโ€”it's literally the best reason to be critical. It's called holding electeds accountable. It's how democracy works. And itโ€™s how political parties work when they arenโ€™t cults.

@QasimRashid Exactly.This "all or nothing" attitude from the Left, that we have to agree with a politician 100% or we won't vote for them, is incredibly harmful. We are so fractured because of this inability to negotiate, compromise, and be constructively critical.

@gemcarey This is so true. I have POTS and CFS. It was either triggered from Covid, or from the vaccine. There are reliable reports of both happening. I never really speak about the latter possibility though, because I don't want to add any fuel to harmful anti-vax conspiracy theories.
