4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like “oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great” I was like “Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good…”...

Bahalex,

Houses built in the 40’s, earthquake country, listed for over a million dollars and “no contingencies”. Sounds like the bargain of the century!

Bahalex,

The push back from the residents is a bit of knee jerk reaction, it’s them saying “treat our city like an amusement park, fine, pay like you’re visiting an amusement park”.

A complex issue boiled down to one phrase.

What is the name of the actor from Breaking Bad who had the A- tattoo on his arm?

I have been searching for this person’s name for years, after people have pointed out my own blood type tattoo. Mine is for medical reasons. Anyway, after having people jokingly reference the scene where Jesse says, “A minus? Why not an A plus?” I haven’t been able to find the scene online, or the actor’s name on any...

Bahalex,

It’s a clue to start looking for the paperwork though. Flogging some poor soul back to a life they don’t want only to suffer isn’t fun for anyone involved.

Bahalex,

I didn’t mean to imply to drop everything and look. But as something that should be noted and mentioned to someone who could find that info. Healthcare care isn’t a solo sport. I am aware of the laws and protocols.

I say this as someone who has been in this situation.

Bahalex,

Cane Toads: An Unnatural History

It’s got a good dose of Aussie humor for a pretty serious ecological disaster. Also a good dose of “we humans have learned nothing from our mistakes “.

Bahalex,

I have nothing to add, just amused by the fact that a Tickle can’t get a giggle.

Bahalex,

I was camping for the last eclipse. Didn’t make it north enough for totality, but fairly close. Seeing the little wedge of sun filtered and projected hundreds of times through the trees was pretty awesome- and in a way more interesting than looking at directly with the special glasses.

Even if you don’t look up , try to go out and enjoy it.

Zoomers: how are Millenials hypocrites?

In my observation, a big part of social progress is each generation pointing out the hypocrisy of the previous. “All men are created equal” so how can you enslave black people? If men can vote, why can’t women? How come straight people can marry but gay people can’t? How is it fair to send an 18 year old to war but not...

Bahalex,

We stood up during the anti Iraq war protests, occupy Wall Street, blm, pro-choice, marched for lgbtq rights, human rights, the environment.

We’re burned out because (mostly) nothing changed or got worse… also busy working to the bone to be able to afford to go to work tomorrow.

Perfect consumer because everything we need to buy is designed to fail and not be repairable.

Bahalex,

I got a Kona Unit a few years ago (oh my, it’s been almost 10…). I ended up swapping in a 1x9 drive train. It’s a sturdy and basic bike , you can upgrade as you go. Its almost doubled in price since I got mine- try used?

My Surly long haul trucker has lasted almost 20 years of off and on abuse, and various configurations. If you can find a used Surly that’s in good shape I’d recommend. Also Soma, choose your frame and go from there- spend what you want for the bits that you want/need.

Bahalex,

Aldi for the essentials. Then Too Good To Go for fruit and vegetables and bread/ pastries.

It could be one stop, but their produce and baked goods are bare minimum.

The meats are the most affordable around me.

Note, not live streams. I have to avoid social media on race weekends to avoid spoilers (Max wins is a given…)

How can I forget about Lord Latifi?

Bahalex,

I mean, let’s take FIFA and the IOC as precedent…openly corrupt and virtually criminal, and yet, nothing done.

Bahalex,

I say next Saturday for the Saturday that will occur soonest.

If someone waiting at a bus stop asks me which bus goes to the train station, I say the “the next one”. Meaning the one that will appear first at the bus stop, not the one after that. Which makes sense for days of the week too, to me anyway.

I am always being corrected, though.

Bahalex,

Found it by the trash bins by our house! We’re not fancy enough folks to have oil and vinegar at the table every meal, but I did receive a bunch of pothos cuttings as a sort of housewarming gift.

In fact, so not fancy that I peruse the trash bins for treasures…

Bahalex,

Ugh… that explains me, so I’m hoping that my kid stays an immature, frustrating, loud, undefeated and happy child for a long time yet.

It all started with a dude looking at skulls, he saw one that was the most symmetrical, the best looking skull he ever saw. He decided it must belong to a white European, as they are the best people (/s). He finds out that the skull was that of a person from the Caucus mountains.

Caucasian has been used to describe the ‘superior’ white Europeans since. So, OP is using the word correctly really. They say African, Asian, Latino because those are other races… with unpleasant skulls.

This is a gross oversimplification, but one of the modern excuses for racism and race superiority. Also, why ‘Caucasian’ is used to say white European.

Ways to improve academic standing without going to community college?

I’m in a catch 22 situation. I want to go to a four year college, but I was previously placed in the remedial track and have a poor academic standing. If I go to a community college, I could improve my grades, but the material they cover is a replacement for high school classes and I’d be precluded from signing up for entry...

Bahalex,

I don’t understand much here.

You’re struggling in self taught high school geometry, but tested out at CC.

You took HS, CC, and online intro to biology classes all at the same time.

The CC wouldn’t let you run experiments due to lack of facilities.

You are used as an expert judge in competitions in your (unknown) field.

You want to maximize time in a college or university research lab.

I’ll say this, you most likely won’t be in a lab much as an undergraduate, so don’t worry about transferring as a freshman. Why not ask all the friends and acquaintances in the research labs for advice and help? If that’s where you’d like to end up?

Also, if you can already enroll in the college, then they, and no one, cares about your academic past- especially high school…

Bahalex,

Depends on the town. I grew up in and went to college in a small town - pop. 16,000 ish. It was the reverse, students came for mostly 3 reasons; it was as far from home and still pay in state tuition, it was (is?) a quirky place where no one really cared how high you flew your freak flag, or to for the pot.

The college brought in diversity and employment, but wasn’t really the identity of the place.

Bahalex,

In short: Make it more difficult and time consuming to take than the bike next to it.

Bahalex,

It’s probably part of it, and being part of a secret in group that gives them a sense of being and identity in this bleak corpo meat grinder of world we live in.

Maybe a bit of non violent disobedience, a desire to get caught and martyr themselves for a bit of notoriety.

It’s probably a complex series of social, psychological, political events that’s just easier to boil down to ‘crazy’ and be amused by their antics.
