Looking at how I might go about installing 5 on Linux

Looks like I need a flatpak to make it easier, not a bad thing.

But I have Godot installed as well, plus RPG Maker in .

And I still don't know what I really want to do.

On my timeline, some people are saying that if you are federating with Threads, you are a terrible person.

But these folks don’t seem to have any plan for migrating people off Threads. And should they have a plan, what’s their plan for getting them to migrate to a server that de-federates Threads – and ensure they’re happy when they do it?

The ironic thing is that a lot of these “morally upright” folks came to the Fediverse during the . They benefitted from tools to make the transition easier. They used auto-crossposting, look-up sites to find their old friends, and various importing tools to help them ensure their switch to Mastodon was a success.

In other words, they benefitted from connecting their Fediverse accounts to Twitter. They can’t use these tools right now, mind you, but that’s not because Fediverse developers were so outraged by Elon Musk that they pulled the plug. No, it was Twitter that pulled the plug by entirely killing off API access.

But now that these folks “got theirs”, they want to kick the ladder off the roof. Should there be some sort of crisis on Threads – and there likely will be – what’s the migration path for Threads users to leave Threads? Why should they trust some random Fediverse server that they’ve never interacted with instead of continuing to deal with the devil they do know, Threads?

By no means am I telling you to federate with Threads. As a server operator, that decision is entirely up to you. Yet I am very skeptical that if all Fediverse servers de-federated Threads, it will make the world a better place. On the contrary, no migration path from Threads makes the world worse.

Agreed.

I am keeping my instances federated with Threads for now. I would prefer to get all of my associates off Meta entirely, but I don't have that control. And my one Facebook friend who had a Mastodon.social account deleted it because it was useless for him.

So, I am wondering how I should try and promote the other instances I am running. Four of the are open for registration, though they have to be approved currently. The fifth I don't know if I will leave it as a single user with a few specific bots.

Here it doesn't really matter. Everyone here is already on an Instance after all. But I want to try and build them anyway.

So, I am working on StorybookArchive some today. I want to get the page up for the project and federate it, but its probably gonna be a boring WordPress default for a while. But it in itself is a test of Federating at a website level.

You aren't wrong. And frankly the politics I am getting is EXTREMELY left leaning.

And that's not even intentional. It's just who I have seen and been interested in. Suddenly it's like the most rabid political posts everywhere.

Just not worth it really. I want to work on my projects and use this as a way for people to find them. But my projects and politics are decidedly not on that side of the spectrum. So a lot of what I create will probably piss off those who can't seperate the two.

Frankly, I always felt the entire safe space mentality was more closed minded then most. If opposing ideas are so damaging to you than there is an issue you need to work on.

Mastodon should allow instances to provide their own icons.

Or if it does, then more instances should use that feature because I've got like four purple icons in my start menu right now.

What do you mean by icons?

I think its doable in the Administration menus for the instance admin. But that depends on where those icons are referenced.

It's definitely a server admin question.

It might be as doable as just modifying the manifest.json to point to it and saving that off. Similar to how you have to modify certain files to do posts greater than 500.

I just don't know how the upgrades would be handled later, could be just a bit of a pain on that side.

Haven't used Threads until now... And mostly I am using it to try and advocate for enabling Fediverse beta.

The more connections the better.

But that's why I want to get more folk to think about Federated options. Even if it's the current one way street beta.

I am running 6 instances for 6 different types of communities right now. Currently I dont have a lot of members, just me and a few accounts I created for future bots from sites I am working on.

Bought a new Domain... Probably not worth it but AI figured what the heck.

Gonna try and build a general news site. Never tried and I don't know what I will do there yet.

But I can at least give it a year and see.

The Accent isn't a problem. I've done it for years mostly because I just like how it sounds after years of British Comedy.

Back when I was a kid, I was in Dallas with the Family at a First Saturday Sale (Tech flea Market). I got confused for a Brit because of my voice.

Threads has successfully federated with atomicpoet.org.

So all questions about whether or not they will federate have been answered. More to the point, Threads is federating with my personal server.

There were doubts about whether Threads would allow federation with single-user and small user servers. There were also questions about whether they’d allow federation with non-Mastodon servers.

Well, I’m running an Akkoma+Mangane server that has two active users on it. And federation with Threads is indeed working.

Will do. So far I am having a one way experience. I can find my Threads account from here but I can't find here from there if I search. I haven't tried following yet though to see.
