I just rode in THE POSHEST TAXI. It was a free upgrade while using the GO Japan taxi app!

The taxi was the sliding door kind and was like a first class flight inside, with individually sculpted chairs that recline and have footrests, climate control and a charging cable for my phone.

Have a good evening everyone & again, TY for your VERY thoughtful, kind, even critical replies. All were excellent.

Weird thing is about the nicknames: I never even do that. I'm sick of 'em. But people were SO responsive, laughing, loving them, so I used them for ONLY the Trumps' testimony! Welp. So much for that idea.

I was touched by the 3-4 who said it brought them laughter in their sickbeds, recoveries. That's what matters.

But from now on, only quips.

If anyone is questioning why I would take the scooter out on a 3 - 4 hour ride to a remote store, rather than take the train… let me introduce my dinner last night 😂

(Okonomiyaki, packed with seafood.)

Also, one day it may become cold enough to not romp around outside in a tee shirt. Maybe. And if not… then the hideous summer will roll in again. So romp’in time.

Okonomiyaki on a large hot plate that runs in front of the restaurant counter. It’s a huge pile of cabbage and sea food with dancing fish flakes (bonito flakes) that curl in the heat.

The original cartoon series had technology that did not exist at the time and now are common things like flatscreen TVs, video chat, tanning beds, and more

@sayomgwtf I lived in Studio City as a teen, not too far from the Hanna-Barbera studios. Once I stopped by there and went dumpster diving (it was unlocked, totally open to the elements), and came back with a large box filled of discarded Flintstone cels, most of them in sequence. Also a couple of indoor water color backgrounds. I set up my Super-8 camera and reanimated several of the sequences for fun.

Unfortunately, a few years later my mother did a Spring cleaning and tossed the entire box!

@sayomgwtf Pretty sure I was about 13 years old at the time, and rode my bike there (I had a basket in the front). I just checked Google Maps and it would have been about 4.5 miles each way.

@sayomgwtf Animating the stacks of sequential Flintstone cels was probably my first foray into animation. Taking the work of the masters and trying to reassemble it to see how it worked. Tedious but fun. Had to wait a week to see the results when the film reel came back from the film lab. I bet I still have that film somewhere in my garage.

THIS IS SO SO COOL!

As dedicated fans of will know, Casper is one of my TNR stray cats, who is a regular multi-dinners-a-day visitor and known for his antics such a jumping from balcony to aircon unit to washing poles and knocking over the webcam.

His talent for mischief was spotted by @DavidBFox, who thought Casper had what it took to be part of the game he is developing based on Rube Goldberg machines!

AND THE CAT IN LEVEL 6 IS NOW NAMED CASPER!

A 1/2 sized model of our SLIM lunar lander has appeared in the ISAS JAXA lobby! 🌝 Is it there because it’s currently the official favourite, and allowed to join in all coffee chats? ☕️ 🛰️ Why yes, I do suspect that is the reason!

SLIM is currently en route to the Moon, where it hopes to demonstrate a “pinpoint landing”: landing on sloped terrain (tricky) within just 100m of the target spot. This is about a factor of 100 better than conventional landers, which also need a wide flat space.

Goodbye dinner for a friend heading to a new institute (ahh academia: that haven of long-term jobs… 😅). It’s not uncommon for restaurants in Japan to have private booths, which is a really cool way to have an intimate dinner with up to about 6 people.

To all of you whose wonderful, kind, compassionate words and support have been so helpful, I have sad news: Father In Law passed away. Mr. Laffy just called in tears, but there was a small silver lining… FIL got his final wish and died peacefully in his sleep. That was so comforting for all of us. I can never thank you guys enough for your consistent caring and empathy. You’ve been beyond amazing. ❤️💔

Today is the day… for my annual attempt to skate! 🛼

I should clarify that I do this exactly once a year (OK, sometimes twice if spring does good things 🌸🍂) when the weather is beautiful. And each time I think, “oh I would really enjoy this if I were better at it” 😂

Rinse. Repeat. 🧽

Because I am neither steady nor good at breaking, I go across Tokyo to a long path that runs along the Arakawa river.

And wear pads. So many pads.

This adds to the hassle. But subtracts from the regrets.

@elizabethtasker l like the design! Three wheels to balance on. One for braking. I had clip on metal skates as a kid. I was never very good at it. No way to brake, but there was plenty of lawn in the neighborhood to fall on.
