Same, sister!! I have muted almost all sportsball hashtags so I'm mainly getting content from baffled folks who have tuned in because a great pop singer is affiliated with this event!
Here is a from in 2018!

This is a #kdrama casting pet peeve but I'm tired of characters that are supposed to be raised in the US or Europe that don't have the correct accents. It's a real annoying sticking point. Your character was raised in Iowa and you can't pronounce corn correctly.

EllenInEdmonton,
@EllenInEdmonton@mstdn.ca avatar

@jodmentum @s1m0n4 @ronsboy67
I agree that there are many #kdrama shows where the character has supposedly lived abroad at some point and then can't copy the most basic of English sentences. If the character is one of the leads, they'd better cast appropriately or change the storyline.

If you have to do something you really don't want to do, how do you get yourself to do it?

EllenInEdmonton,

I have the best luck when I make plans to do it with another person. In the case of cleaning my space, that requires an impending visit by another person.

it's funny how the things in place to make our lives easier end up making it harder. I have now cleaned the Roomba out three times (three different things needed cleaning). we originally got it as a housewarming gift because sweeping is agonizingly painful and we have two cats and a dog, so there's a lot to sweep, but now I'm on the floor taking the thing apart half the time.

EllenInEdmonton,
@EllenInEdmonton@mstdn.ca avatar

@senanthic IMHO, pets are the reason that Roombas exist but I also get how they would be hard to maintain with lots of pet hair stuck in them. Hope the operation goes well.

EllenInEdmonton,
@EllenInEdmonton@mstdn.ca avatar

@senanthic Haha, one of my favourite Roomba stories involves a dog that didn't make it outside to do its business.

for some reason my body can handle swallowing the massive horse pill, but not the relatively smaller spironolactone. 50% of the time I choke on it and have to spit it out. I suspect it's because the horse pill is aerodynamic and spironolactone has sharp edges

Foster
by
Claire Keegan

This is a really beautiful novella. An Irish girl in the 1980s is staying as a foster child with family. Everything is different from what she is used to.

It would have been easy for Keegan to make a dramatic story out of this. But she didn't. It has a sad, but sober style, which makes it all the more powerful.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for sharing. I worked with children in care for 3 decades and that unfamiliarity is one of the most jarring aspects for most of them.

    Nice! I learned that the earlier I get started on the calculations, the fewer nasty surprises I have at the last month. I did a lot proactively about my taxes last year. Hope that's helped me out for this tax year!

    Still sticking to your New Year’s resolutions?

    EllenInEdmonton,
    @EllenInEdmonton@mstdn.ca avatar

    @jd
    I decided that resolutions aren't very effective for me but setting a target and working towards it is! As a result, I've done a LOT of in as I map out a tentative trip around the peninsula for 2025.
    Also, setting last January aside to mainly focus on organizing nooks and crannies worked out well for me so that's happening. Rather slowly, but still, there are spaces that are sorted.

    We had such a fun recharge break in our deep work session this morning. I learned that if you have a Mac, doing certain things with your hands on camera produces reactions in Zoom. So if you make a 🫶🏻, lots of ❤️ fly around. If you give a thumbs down 👎🏻 the screen darkens and it rains! Then we played with video filters, I turned myself into a plant creature with leaves coming out of my head and pink rosy cheeks. So silly, and a great way to break the work sessions up.

    @senanthic Yes! My precious laptop has taken many journeys with me and I like how it's developing a layered look. It spent 3 years at the front of a university classroom so I wanted the students to see something that intrigued them.

    Compassion fatigue is a very real risk when doing helping work. It's important to have some non-work activities that fully engage the brain, in order to get a real break from the intensity. Be well.

    ”Yellowface” by R. F. Kuang, and it just throws my moral compass off the charts to see people underlining the worst parts of the protagonist’s mad ramblings.

    Here’s a practically proto-fascist example: The white protagonist feels her asian ”friend” has taken something away from her by being so succesfull. 🥵

    Of course, they may just be following her evil ways in intellectual curiosity, but I can’t help but feel shocked.

    EllenInEdmonton,

    I bought a corduroy jumpsuit from Monsoon for an absolute bargain sale price and it is INSTANTLY my favourite garment. It’s thick and warm and so incredibly comfortable as it has no waistband. Even comfier than pyjamas! Absolutely perfect for lounging around the house at the weekend. Of course the only downside about jumpsuits is that you have to almost take the whole thing off to have a wee…

    I’ve said before that gear doesn’t matter and I’ll hold to that, but I’ll also admit that when someone goes “oh, I only shoot light” and proceeds to list photo gear that costs more than a car, I twitch a little. what’s your full load out? just the current Nikon product line?

    @senanthic Cyclists often state that the perfect number of bikes is N+1. In other words, 1 more than they currently own. For quilters, the machine might be a small investment compared to the size of their stash. Fabric is not cheap and the quantities needed are significant.
