This has been a warm winter, and it's the first winter in the seven or eight since I've lived in this cottage that I haven't turned the furnace on even once.

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online Same here. We haven't run the heat at all this winter. What's more, the past few days I've had all the doors and windows open all day long. :-)

@MLE_online Alright, turnabout is fair play. I have NOTHING like that anywhere near me. :-) Very cool.

I really miss donuts but they are too expensive now :/

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online The grocery across the street used to sell them for $0.59. Now they're $0.99. I refuse on principle (and my daily glucose test is better for it).

I think I want to try baking a dark rye bread this week

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online So, are you pro-liverwurst or anti-liverwurst? Liverwurst on dark rye with paper-think onion, dill pickle on the side. One of my absolute favorite lunches. :-)

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online I imagine that you would. I find that people like all livery things, or despise ALL of them. hehe So, next time you're near a good Jewish deli ... :-)

Something occurred to me.

While I left Twitter I left my account intact 'just in case'. It dawned on me that even though I don't use it I'm still 'following' a bunch of commercial accounts and show up as a follower to them. I may be inclining them to stay on Twitter.

Today I logged back in over there and un-followed every manufacturer, distributor, publication, and other non-individual account. I kept all of the people just in case, but I stopped passively promoting X.

Man. "What's X-10" made me cringe Chris! LOL I had tons of that stuff in my old house. RF control signaling sent over the house's AC wiring. All manner of transmitters and receivers. You can still buy the stuff! (though not sure why you'd want to :-) https://www.x10.com/

@stargirl Whoa! You have an actual 2600?? That's the first synth I ever touched, in high school jazz band (mid-70s). I have a clone kit I need to start assembling.

Is there a skin for Discord to make it look like mIRC on Windows 98 yet? Or do I have to do everything myself?

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@foone I just use real IRC. <grin>

It's been 43 years, I know, but I'm still mad at Tandy for calling the CoCo the "TRS-80 Color Computer"
I know, branding and all, but the TRS-80 ran on a Z80, which is based on the 8080. Calling it the TRS-80 just makes sense. The 80 makes sense, I mean.
The CoCo series is powered by a Motorola 6809! That's not a Z80 or an 8080. At all.

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@foone hehe The CoCo was the first computer I owned and coded on. I ended up at Motorola so I'm totally cool with the 6809. (grin)

I'm really curious - where people of mastodon LISTEN to music most?

If other leave a comment, I want to know about your niche-y platforms for music listening.

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@yougenius Pretty evenly split between broadcast FM radio, and Pandora. I'll hit one of the others if an artist/creator sends me there.

If it's almost 8PM but the UPS tracking says my package will be delivered "by end of day" do you think it will come today?

JohnS_AZ,
@JohnS_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@yougenius I don't know what time it is where you are but we regularly get UPS deliveries at 8 or 9pm

@yougenius 42 minutes ... fingers crossed! <grin>

This Central Air Data Computer (CADC) was introduced in 1955. It computed airspeed, altitude, etc for fighter planes. But instead of a processor, it was an analog computer that used tiny gears for its computations. Let's look at how one of its modules works.🧵

That second photo would make one hell of a picture puzzle. 🙂
