Wonder why @capeunionmart are made in India when we have excellent locally made and branded which we export to many countries? Local ones are made better too.

@danie10 Because of cheap manufacturing power, no production restrictions, no requirement to meet safety standards, no ecological friendly laws etc. They can even employ minors and childrens in production, as well as in conditions offensive to human health and dignity. India is well known from doing that notouriously. Even big world known brands are cooperating whth them because of that. Many also got caught on this.
Check Anvil's channel, he is talking about shoes a lot.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 I'll tell you this.. I dealt with the topic of shoes from the beginning to the end. I'm a fan of decent footwear, and heels freak, and I don't buy any cheap junk anymore. More than once, I have seen these supposedly nice but cheap high heels that fell apart after a few wears. Or it was impossible to wear them for more than an hour at all. So, nope, no more cheap made crap. I'd rather pay more but have something good for a long time and not have to suffer from using it.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 The source of origin is of secondary importance to me. It is important because of details like the sizing, shoe fit, cut, etc. For example Italian made shoes are slightly narrower in the toe than other European or US branded ones. The difference can by up or down to two sizes. The central european made are most comfortable one for me. Especially since I wear heels almost every day, all the time. I have almost no flat shoes, apart from a few pairs of swimming pool flip-flops. 😁 👠

While no single person can claim exclusive credit for the ascendancy of advertising in American life, no one deserves credit more than a man most of us have never heard of: Edward Bernays.

Often referred to as “the father of public relations,” Bernays in 1928 published his seminal work, Propaganda, in which he argued that public relations is not a gimmick but a necessity:

Now we know who to blame for the mind games...

https://theconversation.com/the-manipulation-of-the-american-mind-edward-bernays-and-the-birth-of-public-relations-44393

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Well.. but Bernays was as precursor of the whole thing as we today know under the public relations name. No one back then in his times paid any attention to that topic at all. As the first one he probably did not know what repercussions will have this in the future and what an art of impact on the many societies. To be honest his ideas and work were amazing. And still are. Sad is that it was also very quickly missused by many people to make tons of profits on it and those methods.

How to make Android use the DNS server of your choice: Not all DNS servers are created equally

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Seems like this andropolice article is only another crypto advert made for google. As many other done by them is.
They don't even mentioned that the best thing is to make own DNS server and use it for any purposes.
It can be made even from some old hardware like an unused laptop, phone, tablet or router. Cheap, efficient and no one will own the data being sending and receiving trough. They doesn't say anything about avoiding some dns servers hosted by the big corpos like shitflare etc.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 They are good. I used their dns some time before I went entirely to my own one I have build from some old lying around parts. Works very good. As I am somehow old school person I try to be as much independent from any art of corpos as I only can in various parts of my life. So I decided to have everything of my own. Everything I need for life and work. Electricity, water, internet, groceries and so on. Besides we have not particularly much choice, few years ago by moving to the land.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Yes I saw that too. They are doing that for some pretty long time. I think they are paid for promoting google's things. But they doesn't mention that nowhere. And they should, because press law obliges them to do so. To inform readers about the "sponsored", promotional materials. That's why I dropped them away from my rss subscriptions. I don't like such manipulative content.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Yeap that's very true. No content, just some papalapap. As usual by them.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 The two biggest factors here imho, are machine resources - every physical screen eats some of them away, and the energy costs - every display needs to be powered. Then next in the row is entire usability of such setup - configuration possibilities by two displays are way much bigger than by the only one wide one. You can put one in the landscape mode, second one in the portrait and both will be working fine. Especially if you don't care about the "cable salat" behind the desk. 😁

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Yes those modern devices are much more power friendly. I know that because we also have our electricity here from the solar panels and water powered generator as well. I was lucky to have a part of the mountain river on my land where we could install a small hydroelectric power plant for our farm and house. Being completely independent in such topics from the big industry is a very good deal. No crazy bills, no problems, no any form of worries etc.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Yes, exactly why we have did that. Sun is okay to generate the power but we don't have it enough trough the entire year. That's why we went to the hydro power generation too. It is working whole time without any biggest maintenance. Only due to the winter I need to control the state of the machine. You know, ice, snow and so on. But so, it is very worth the money invested into. We had already all the costs compensated after two years of use and now is working purely into our pockets. 👍

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 The best things are those told by the creators of the banking apps: "boo.. hoo.. your fingerprint is not secure!"
Yeap.. but the four-digit pin code is mega totally hyper secure one instead. Especially when it can be guessed in circa 5 and half hours, counting from 0000 to 9999 by two seconds time period per pin. 😁
Well.. but no, the fingerprint must be disabled on every single rooted device, because of "for your security". Meeeehhh!

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Yes both methods are not particularly secure in the real life. But combined together or with some other ones are much more harder to break in. For example if someone is using hardware key like YubiKey. But banking app creators seems to not understand the such cases at all.

MartinaNeumayer,
@MartinaNeumayer@mastodon.social avatar

@danie10 Not only on that, but also they are using very outdated standards like the sms to confirm the money transfers and other financial transactions. That is pretty scary. Sms can be very easy spoofed by some criminals. For example I am still using an old school hardware token for that, which I get from my bank years ago and it is working super fine. I need to have it with me but still that is very practical and safe as well solution.

This is the latest #youtube "innovation". #Google with a market cap of $1.7 trillion and $120 billion cash on hand, "needs" to charge for ads on YouTube.

This is, of course, not true. They have more than enough revenue to run YouTube without ads in perpetuity, but they want to please shareholders. The #Peertube community is showing how you can distribute the costs of hosting content as well. If you don't support Google's continued monetization of monopolized video...vote with your feet.
