Forgiving yourself can be much harder than forgiving other people. I'm not there yet. I have a tendency to share more personal information than I should or that anyone wants to hear. My first grade teacher's message on my first report card said, "Patty talks too much". Some things never change. I have strong opinions and usually don't mind sharing them. I like living alone, but sometimes it really sucks. #LGBTQ advocate #MentalHealthAdvocate #Soccer #MLS

So I've been binge watching the original Perry Mason series starring Raymond Burr. It's been an eye-opening glimpse into history. Here are some of the things I've learned so far:

  • There were no black people in Southern California in the late 1950's. Not a single one. NONE. They didn't arrive in the LA county/Hollywood area until several seasons into the show. And only a handful of Latinos in a city called "Los Angeles".

  • Everyone wore suits all the time. Leisure attire was the same outfit sans jacket and tie, and if you get a little tipsy you also have to roll up your sleeves. People apparently weren't allowed to drink without rolled up sleeves. Only children and drunks could wear t-shirts in public, adults weren't permitted to do so.

  • There was only one homicide detective in all of Los Angeles. The nearly-elderly Lt. Tragg handled every single murder case in one of the most populous areas of the country with scrupulous, meticulous care but could easily be hoodwinked on the witness stand. Police corruption did not exist.

  • Virtually everyone owned a handgun. Way too many white women kept guns in their glove box. Adults could easily steal them to plant at a murder scene and/or use for committing murder, but children somehow never discovered these loaded guns.

  • In criminal court, the judge always allows a person to wax into personal monologue without time limitations provided they're polite to the judge. You could just burst into courtroom proceedings and start pontificating, and everything would come to a complete halt until you finished your speech.

  • You could fool even your own spouse or family member by placing a hanky over the telephone receiver. People had no ability to distinguish speech patterns or mannerisms if you used a hanky. It was like autotune but much, much more effective.

  • In the first season, there were several occasions where drivers simply slid across the bench seats of their car and exit out the passenger side. Evidently this became illegal after season one because it hasn't occurred a single time since.

  • If you make an appointment with Perry Mason of your own volition, you're virtually guaranteed to be arrested and falsely accused of murder within 48-72 hours. You would think this happening frequently would build a reputation of danger for prospective clients, but somehow this is never the case.

  • In the late 1950s, people who discovered dead bodies seemed to be compelled by what I can only suspect is an innate, natural born instinct to touch the fucking murder weapon for absolutely no goddamn reason.

  • If you owned a heavy, stone bookend, someone will eventually be bludgeoned with it. It's just the rules (and of course Mason's innocent defendant will be unable to resist picking that up either).

Seriously though, I grew up with the Perry Mason TV movies in the 80's and loved them. This is the first time I've had a chance to see more than glimpses of the original series and it's quite fun.

2 or more yrs ago Water District established a program for residential customers to be paid to replace grass w/turf

The entitled jerks in this article think their kids are too good to play on turf

...The highest 10% of LVVWD’s residential water users consume about the same amount of water as the most efficient 60% of customers combined! That = about 35,000 high-use properties using as much water as 210,000 other customers...

@binaryphile That is true of the Borowitz Report too. It's scary that satire has become reality.

PattyHanson,
@PattyHanson@mastodon.social avatar

@binaryphile We can chuckle at these sorts of things because they seem to be so outlandish when the reality is these sorts of incidents, though not exactly the same, are happening in real time. Events and exchanges we never thought we would witness. The scary thing is when satire become real.

As my spouse and I ran errands today, she wore a “Protect Trans Kids” t-shirt and I wore a “Trans Rights are Human Rights” ball cap. We catch people staring often, but today one cashier told us they loved our shirt and hat. While we ate lunch, someone came to our table, apologized for interrupting, and complimented our shirt and hat. Putting this out there for those overwhelmed by the ugliness and need a boost, that you have allies and advocates. Maybe more than you know.

PattyHanson,
@PattyHanson@mastodon.social avatar

@rwarner In support of my son and granddaughter, I bought a pride t-shirt and wore it a few time in June. I was happy that I received more than one positive remark from strangers about the shirt. The hate and ugliness is the minority, but they are much louder. We can't allow them to force us to be quiet. 🌈

Much of what I post here is not based on existing laws or statutes. My posts are my to the inequities & blatant being tolerated today in our country

Try as some will, they cannot argue away my feelings. They are my own & they are based on the experiences of my family & me

My of is not an effort to divide voters or an attempt to sway votes from one candidate to another

Sometimes situations require a heavy fist v a soft glove.

I'm glad was held accountable for income tax "crimes". The came after me with a vengeance when I failed to pay secondary to my addiction. They only stopped when I became homeless, and I was still required to report.

Now I expect them to go after and every sitting member of who has failed to appropriately identify financial "gifts" as income.

Maggie Haberman is framing the motivation as ego-driven. But given the vast amount of secret intelligence he kept regarding military capabilities of other nations, profit seems a more likely motivation.

PattyHanson,

@alwirtes is 's chief . No one should believe anything she writes about him unless it has been proven by a second and independent source. Trump's ego, such as it is, is ALL about money and how much the world believes he has. Once he has lost everything, he will try to pimp out his wife and his daughter - literally. That's assuming they are still around and one or both has not joined him in prison for their own set of crimes.

Don't go to Yellowstone National Park. Don't go to the beaches in the Gulf states. Don't go to New Orleans. Don't go to Grand Teton National Park. Don't support the businesses or the state governments passing these laws.

Does this sound like money laundering to anyone other than me? I think it's money laundering.

A Miami-based development firm founded by a Russian-born billionaire paid $76.25 million this week for nearly 1 acre of land at the base of Aspen Mountain where the sellers had planned to build a slope-side hotel called the Gorsuch Haus.

How many families could have been fed; how many medical bills could have been paid; how many charging stations for EVs could have been built across the nation; how many shelters or homes for the homeless; how many shoes, how many suits of clothes? The money that just blew up in the sky above Texas was a massive waste of government resources yet space travel/exploration is continually defended. Use the money on THIS planet. Sometimes tried & true is better.

The followers of Jim Jones eventually drank kool-aid spiked w/cyanide. Some didn't. Some were forced. People who believed in the founders of Heaven's Gate, Bonnie Nettles & Marshall Applewhite, ate cyanide pills. David Koresh allowed the men, women & children who thought he was the Messiah, or the Messiah's mouthpiece, to burn, suffocate or be shot to death because HE wouldn't give up & allow the government to confirm the welfare of the women & children in his cult

PattyHanson,
@PattyHanson@mastodon.social avatar

@armandalb True. For the life of me, I can't figure out what Jones' motive was other than unadulterated power over people, and I believe that is what Trump & DeSantis seek. They are using politics as a means to an end, but I don't think either have authentic political beliefs. They use societal arguments as a method, but they are both amoral.

PattyHanson,
@PattyHanson@mastodon.social avatar

@Tilopa @armandalb That's a pretty good assessment.
