I miss contrast. Just contrast. Decently contrasty text, captions that always have black borders so that they could be read over any color or pattern, etc.

I'm so sick of seeing white captions above white regions of images/videos.

This was fixed in the 80s.

And don't even get me started on active window decorations.

This is why (IMHO) user interface design has gone to total crap in the last decade.

The people who made UIs what they were are no longer doing it, and the ones that are designing UIs now don't understand the extremely practical design considerations of 20-year-old interfaces, and are now changing things for novelty's sake, and breaking 40-year-old UI design standards. 😢

Windows has traditionally included hidden media called Easter eggs. Many referenced the team working on a particular version. In 2002, Microsoft ended the practice via its Trustworthy Computing Initiative. In 2022, a 35-year-old Windows 1 Easter egg was found by @mswin_bat. 🤯

My very first laptop (an old Dell I bought from the Factory Outlet in 1995) had a "Passive Matrix" (what we more recently call STN - Super Twist Nematic) 16-grey LCD.

Man, that sucker was like computing through soup. XD

Hmm, it could be that older Android versions would show them as needed, which is what I vaguely seem to recall.

But modern Android probably won't even work with really old apps.

Any on F-Droid you can think of off the top of your head?

Then again, a lot of older F-Droid apps won't even install on my pixel 7. I'm not sure if it's an Android 14 thing or a Pixel 7 thing

I've heard its only about a 30% performance loss (max) to disable HT.
If doing so would let you disable some mitigations, it might be worth looking into.
