@GrimmReality We live in the mountains northeast of there, and it's a good drive. My other degree is business, so not much will come over credit-wise, but that's ok. I can do a lot of the lower level stuff online, but for labs, etc., I'll have to come in. That we will figure out later. Find a little studio or something.

Finally got my kid off to college himself, I am recovering my health, and now I can do what I really want to do.

Watching scifi movies and seeing a character ask an AI to do or evaluate something hits different now.

I'm watching Alien: Covenant and the pilot just asked the spaceship AI how close they could get to the storm in the planet's atmosphere.

The AI answered 80 kilometres, which I assume at this point is a confidently wrong answer, probably pulled from an unattributed blogpost systems away about a different ship, different atmosphere, and different storm.

I like that I’m into ‘vintage’ hobbies. I love old people in vintage hobbies. It’s like having an elder with good taste guide you.

An old lady gave me her coffee burr grinder before moving to a nursing home. A really old man sold me his Rega Planar 2 record player, with impeccably selected stylus and cartridge and parts. The cameras I buy, mostly from old men and women. I also love talking to old people, so it’s a win!

Not to sound old myself, but ‘they don’t make things like they used to’.

He's in engineering college here in New Mexico and has already secured permission and funding from the school to build a darkroom next semester in an unused large closet. ;)

It's a great avocation. :)

I'm going to open up a discussion about how people actually live with Boundaries. This isn't a place to be judgemental about other people's choices, we all rationalize things, and make the best we can out of difficult circumstances.

Many of you know I care for my mother who is paraplegic, the level of care my husband and I give her is on the high end, it would be incredibly difficult for one person to do everything that would need to be done. This might sound ugly, but my mother was not a good mother, she frantically switched back and forth between helicopter parenting and outright neglect. She also doesn't think she has issues, and would never go to any therapy that wasn't "Christian" or take any kind of medication for mental health. I spent my childhood caring for her, my father and my siblings, and I still care for her. Understandably, people ask why, and it's a hard thing for me to answer. I do try very hard to set Boundaries with her now, but it probably isn't enough all the time, burn out is high for caregivers in the best of situations, and I can't pretend this is that. It feels like most of us compromise on something, especially with family.

So, what are your experiences with this kind of thing? What do you rationalize? What have you learned?
This is more about sharing personal experiences than to preach at people about their choices, so please keep that in mind when you reply.
