Fun psychedelia that also includes a hippie's handwritten annotations on the songs, which includes things like, "use with care."

Close-up of the back cover of The American Metaphysical Circus with handwritten notes. For example, The Sing-Along Song is notated with "use with care - Dixieland."

@cherold @bourgwick @vinylrecords WBRU was my go-to radio station as a kid.
In the 80s and 90s it was a modern rock/alternative station out of Providence, R.I.
What it was in 1969 or 1972 I don’t know. But in the 90s, it was AWESOME.

INXS
Kick
1987 U.S. pressing

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve listened to THIS.

One of my older sisters was a huge INXS fan in the , and it was through her that I heard not only THIS album, but Listen Like Thieves also.
This has a bunch of hit singles, and is probably their best 80s record, but I grew into a much bigger fan of the albums, particularly Welcome To Wherever You Are, which is their best record PERIOD.
But no denying how great this one is.

@billyjoebowers they didn’t disappear, but the thing that made them GREAT did.

That was Michael Hutchence.

You can’t find a new singer by having a televised game show and expect it to be even remotely the same.

Michael was 95% of the magic. That’s an unarguable point. He, and his voice, did shit to people.
They SHOULD have quit immediately after.
After, they just became an average run of the mill pop band.

THE ROLLING STONES
Let It Bleed
1979 Canada reissue

Forever and always my favorite record.

Great opening track, a great closing track, and one of my two personal favorite Stones songs in “You’ve Got The Silver” (the other being “Salt Of The Earth” from Beggars Banquet).

This pressing has a bit of a goofy label.
STONES is actually singular, & the XZAL number at the bottom is upside down & missing a parentheses.
Bang up quality control.

DAVID AXELROD
Seriously Deep
1975 U.S. pressing

Another artist I’ve only just begun to explore.

A friend of mine gifted me two AXELROD albums (this, and Heavy Axe), which is beyond generous because they’re both very pricey: each over $100 CAD.

I’m definitely feeling it. A bit of a vibe goin on this one.
When he gave them to me, he told me “he’s not for everyone” and also that A Tribe Called Quest (who I’m a big fan of) were among many who’ve sampled him.

PAVEMENT
Quarantine The Past: Greatest Hits 1989-1999
2010 U.S. 2xLP pressing

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain aside, this should be the only Pavement album anyone should ever need.

ALL the great Pavement songs are here, including “Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence”, their great contribution to the classic compilation No Alternative.
“Date With IKEA” is also here.
‘Nuff said.

I dont buy alot of Live albums. Although it that number seems to be increasing. What's interesting about this is, the show Cat Power is trying to recreate at The Royal Albert Hall never actually took place at The Royal Albert Hall. Took place in Manchester at The Lesser Free Trade Hall. Famous for that "Judas" remark someone shouts.

This doesn't make this album any less impressive.

My son was next to me when I posted that Bruce Willis record a few mins. ago, & he said to me “What’s Die Hard?”

I couldn’t believe it.

“Wait, you’ve never seen Die Hard I’ve never shown it to you? I have CLEARLY failed you as a father.”

So here we go.
My son and I are about to sit down and watch Die Hard together.
For the first time.
I’m so envious of him.

What’s DIE HARD, son?
Its 40 stories of sheer adventure, and the greatest Christmas movie ever made.

Listening back to this in bits to get a full review in my sound system at home. Just incredible. Proper slam on the drums on this pressing.

Great pressing. Dynamic rich sound on a flat white vinyl. I met Jez and Andy recently and got it signed so dead happy either way but the vinyl being a good one just adds to the awesomeness of this release . Surface noise is there but quiet.

So I figured something out just now at 4am @TheVinylApe
If you have a vinyl that's got a plastic feel to it and feels cheap don't use record cleaners on it as it burns through the material used. Ruined 1 this week with it another 1 was fine because it was well made wax. I don't know what they use on the cheap ones though.

TheVinylApe,
@TheVinylApe@masto.ai avatar

@Whiskeyomega I use isopropyl alcohol (with an occasional dose of Vinyl Cat for really rough ones), with a NORWEX cloth.
Typical microfibre cloths are 1/100th of a human hair.
My NORWEX cloth is 1/1000th.

I’ve never had the experience of cleaning ruining a record.

ROBERT JOHNSON
The Complete Collection
2011 UK 2xLP pressing

Friday night is a night for Robert Johnson, some B.C. ganja, and a few grenades of scotch.

Every song written by Robert Johnson, in one place, sounding absolutely phenomenal.

I think they reissued this again in ‘23, but this is the earlier one from ‘11.

If you see either, pick them up.

KRAFTWERK
Autobahn
1975 UK pressing
Embossed cover (Vertigo)

What a find today!
My son asked me if I could take him to the thrift store for a pair of white shoes he could paint for a project, & asked to go to one I hadn’t heard of that he goes to with his friends.

There was a bunch of basic records in there with $3-$5 tags on, but this didn’t have a price tag.
The old ladies didn’t know how much either, so they gave it to me for $3!
Quite the deal!

PERREY-KINGSLEY
The In Sound From Way Out!
1966 Canada pressing

One that I’m always happy to put on; a really fun, and very influential record.
A spaced out pop album with unique compositions. It’s somewhat goofy and kitschy in some areas, but really light years ahead of it’s time.

30 years after its release, The Beastie Boys put out THEIR album of the same name, with a very similar album cover. A nice tip of the cap to a great record.

BLACK SABBATH
Paranoid
1976 UK reissue

It’s pouring out so hard, the streets have turned to rivers, and it’s legitimately unsafe to be out driving.
So, is there a more appropriate album to have on right now to match the weather outside?
The fairies BETTER have their boots on today.
You gotta believe me.

Green Day - Dookie. I saw the new cash grab Boxsets out recently and found out they weren't cut by the same guy that did this one and the reviews this got were amazing.
Absolutely covered in paper dust so the paper sleeve has gone in the bin and replaced by nice Spincare sleeve.

A very long but very fun night in the studio tonight with my son and his friends.
It’s a great pleasure getting to watch these kids find their voices and feet, as well as play with them a bit and show them some things.
These kids are like sponges. They’re soaking up everything.
It’s an honor to teach them, and show them how the old dogs like me do it.
The future is bright.
And loud.

BIG STAR
#1 Record
2020 U.S. remastered reissue

These Craft reissues of the first two Big Star records sound very good.
For endlessly re-playable copies that AREN’T originals, you’d be hard pressed to find better options than these.
I played this for my 14 yr old son last week, and although he found “Thirteen” quite beautiful, it hasn’t quite clicked for him yet. However, as a kid who’s learning to write his own songs with his friends, I suspect that will change.

@flockofnazguls the thing about this that I love the most is Will’s disdainful pause when the handshake happens. And then after they play it straight and sing it well, you wonder in what hilarious way they’re gonna choose to end it.
The tree bit slays me.
So good.
