I don't understand why Super Mario doesn't use more plumber-based attacks, like telling Bowser he'll be there between 10am and 6pm as a form of psychological warfare, giving him nervous countdown anxiety all day, preventing him from being able to start a single task because he never knows when he'll be interrupted, and being so tense and exhausted that he'll finally just pay thousands of dollars to make it all end

I declared myself a vegetarian halfway through Thanksgiving dinner last night. Then, 3/4ths of the way through dinner, I declared all recipients of the sun’s energy a vegetable and started gnawing on the table.

I want to highlight my album Broken Angels this , which I put out just last month, and am also extremely proud of. Its creation is unlike the Jamuary collection, in that it took me a really, really long time to put it together, and I believe that time and effort were well spent. It's industrial with touches of metal, and thoroughly awesome. https://traiken.bandcamp.com/album/broken-angels

There was a point when I wanted to finish my WIP album by the end of the year, but I don't want to rush things (and it's been an awful year). That said, with how shitty the purchase of was, for all we know this could be the last . I haven't pivoted to a new platform because that's daunting, but for now, buying my music when the shitty new owners DON'T get a cut would be the way to go. So: https://traiken.bandcamp.com Check out my mostly-instrumental electronic rock, kthnxbye

A bit later than usual, but stuff came up, and this track kept acquiring layers. I could keep mixing this for a few more days--but that's not how works. So, for Jamuary 18th, I present: Suburban Camouflage.

I wake up every morning and slap a big red button that says “I’M DEPRESSED”

the button does absolutely nothing and has no effect and I feel bad for pressing it

Okay then - who has music they want to promote for tomorrow?
Please reply with a few lines description (so people get a sense if it's for them or not) and a link so we can get some boosting going on. ❤️

@thisoccasionalsociety I think Broken Angels got a little overshadowed by Jamuary, so: it's instrumental industrial, borrowing shades of metal and electronica, and deserves all the attention it can get. https://traiken.bandcamp.com/album/broken-angels

I just thought I'd post something entirely unrelated to music, simply to even out the scales a notch. So, uh, you ever notice how if you organize the rates of various vibrations, it takes on the emergent property of a transcendent emotional experience OH GODDAMMIT

I hope this wasn't the last Bandcamp Friday. If it is, then I hope the goodwill and support people show will continue and grow in other places moving forward. For what it's worth, I had a good one, and I sincerely thank everyone who listened, appreciated, and especially those who bought my music. It's a great feeling to share stuff I'm proud of and have it resonate with anyone.

Since this may be the last for all we know, I've collected my entire efforts into an album that you can purchase without a single cent going to the bastards who bought the platform. It's 31 tracks of me proving how goddamn good I am at making music on a deadline. https://traiken.bandcamp.com/album/jamuary-2024

I wondered what wah pedal Aaron North used on the 2006 Nine Inch Nails tour, and then I did a search and found a website dedicated to listing all the gear he used.

This is what the internet is for--not this petty arguing, doomscrolling, algorithmically-induced rage and depression.

Traiken,
@Traiken@mastodon.social avatar

So naturally I started looking up how much those wahs go for, and video reviews of it to get a better sense of the sound. The pedal is like a self-parody of dumb guitar gear naming conventions, full of douchebag puns and macho horseshit; there is literally a switch between "estrogen" and "testosterone," and you can tell this didn't come from a playful enlightened viewpoint on gender dynamics.

I saw a video pop up on YouTube, a stabilized, colorized film of San Fransisco in 1906. That brought up other comparably restored films of everyday life of decades past, and I remember showing one of New York in the 50s to my grandmother, once. Then that made me think, what if I look for things from MY youth, recent though it may be. And that's how I hit a new low in pandemic loneliness: watching YouTube videos of New Jersey malls.

Traiken,
@Traiken@mastodon.social avatar

Then I found a walkthrough video of a mall a friend and I would hang out in nearly every Friday night in the late 2010s, and THEN I got nostalgia, which is remarkable to feel for 2018. I also watched because there was a small chance she and I were in that fucking video (we were not).

Traiken,
@Traiken@mastodon.social avatar

Then again, that should be America's new, true, motto: Appropriate shopping behavior is required at all times.

Traiken,
@Traiken@mastodon.social avatar

But at one moment, the camera lingered over the mall's Code of Conduct, which was on an 8.5x11 piece of paper on a thin metal pedestal, easily missed--I certainly never noticed it when I was there. The first bullet point read that the mall "is open for the purpose of shopping. Appropriate shopping behavior is required at all times." And man, what a dismal fucking phrase.

Look, I KNOW you can’t tell me how long it takes for an open window to ventilate a room without knowing the room size, window dimensions, opening mechanism, windspeed, barometric pressure, how many geese are flying overhead, whatever. But I just want a rough estimate. I want an average. I want some idea, any idea, how helpful an open window is in cleaning the air. Is 5 minutes anything? Is leaving it open a crack for an hour better? I have no frame of reference, fucking help me out, here

Finally, for 31st, a track that feels like the last track of an album, because that's what I'm going to do with all 31 of these. And as I often do, I save some of the best for last.
It's calm and chaotic, moving and hard-hitting, a sonic feast whipped up in only one day. Enjoy; I know I did.

Traiken,

I'm extremely proud of the work I've done for Jamuary. I thought it was a challenge I'd be capable of taking on, but I didn't think I'd be this GOOD at it. I didn't just meet the challenge, I fucking CRUSHED IT. Normally I don't feel this good about anything, so the fact that I'm this happy with what I've made is truly significant.

What's the German word for the pity and discomfort at seeing an amateur artist who's built up an impressive amount of shading on a drawing of a human face but has no sense of proportions whatsoever
