We are fast approaching one of the simultaneously funny and frustrating times of the year.

I refer, of course, to "How many green tomatoes is my dog going to sneak into the house by hiding them in her mouth this time?"

We. find. them. everywhere. She doesn't want to eat them. No. They are her green egg babies.

Hmm, wondering why two of the trees failed to set any fruit this year; thinking the extended "June gloom" may have interrupted pollination on those two. Plenty of flowers, zero fruit set.

ai6yr,

@mrpieceofwork Cherimoya pollination is definitely involved... I believe you have to pull the pollen at the right time in the morning, refrigerate, and bring it back out later.

Hmm, maybe won't be doing much this weekend. Not without some serious hydration + A/C breaks.

ai6yr,

@hisstogramma Oh yeah, definitely don't do that!

So, in 1994, IBM went into a project with me to film "The IBM Family Guide to the Internet."

We all have those embarrassing moments in my career. This was one. My 'acting' career ended soon after LOL.

This was the opening scene.

Epic!

video/mp4

ai6yr,

@jimcarroll LOL kudos to you to sharing an embarrassing moment, vs. burning the VHS tapes. (not that I thought it was bad...)

ai6yr,

@jimcarroll Indeed! Now I am puzzled on what is different about the Canadian Internet vs. the Internet Internet... politer? LOL

ai6yr,

@jimcarroll LOL better than my one published technical book, which (being very niche) ended up in the book sale pile with all the rest of the "how to X" on your computer books a year later... I think <15,000 books sold, probably a lot less (I seem to recall it was advance + maybe $200 a year for a couple of years after publishing, ha ha).

Hmm, wasn't planning on pulling out the shade cloth until August, but might have to do that for this two week .

ai6yr,

60's at night is passable, however. Shade cloth and perhaps some strategic misting will help moderate things, if necessary.

ai6yr,

https://airwaves.social/@J Not bad advice, assuming you are in a dry climate. (wouldn't do that in Houston... but would in Phoenix. If I dared to go outside in Phoenix in summer, LOL)

@ai6yr Thanks for the alt text I see on some of the NWS bots. That's great!

ai6yr,

@glightly The bots I use to pull text off the NWS sites directly is able to populate the alt text, luckily. Usually on the NWS sites there is some embedded alt text...

ai6yr,

@glightly I have figured out (technically) how to pull a graphic and run automatic OCR on it, if possible.

ai6yr,

@kevinrns tropicaltidbits.com has the models, easier is to go to ventusky.com and see what the graphs show for your area/etc.

Just opened the fridge to find this determined wee cabbage. 😂

Would it grow if I plant it in the garden?

ai6yr,

@Cyclist YES!

I don't know how to keep working on all the small-time BS that is foisted on most folks who are not rich/powerful while at the same time knowing is, y'know, and emergency and we all ought to be pulling the emergency brake on capitalism right about now.

Almost everything I read about that's happening are effects we were warned about in advance, sometimes many, many decades ago. We do not have time to dick around.

ai6yr,

@glightly Emergency brake is around here somewhere.

It appears #Phoenix would be better suited as an underground city. "low" temperatures for the foreseeable future in the 90's. #heatwave #AZwx

Another #BlueRidgeParkway #picnic today. This is at the #MountPisgahPicnic area. It was 10 degrees F cooler there than at the house.

A gorgeous field and hill, with a picnic table and trees. Cerulean blue sky and wispy clouds.

ai6yr,

@czarbucks Look at all that green! I went through the Blue Ridge parkway once, wish I could have spent more time wandering around. (instead... it was an infant in the back seat and a lot of screaming all the way to Washington DC...). I have concluded if I am to actually enjoy going anywhere it will be without any of my family, LOL.

Telemarketer just called with the "Hello, I'm from the Support Our Police PAC"

Me: "All cops are bastards, fuck off"

ai6yr,

@mybarkingdogs Also apparently a huge scam PAC.

I had a Bank of America account when I was in college and absolutely none of this surprises me. I had an account geared towards college students but there were several occasions during college and immediately after that I would get duplicate charges for insufficient funds or, more often, charged for not maintaining a minimum balance.

Switching to a credit union and getting out of that abusive relationship was one of the best financial decisions I've made. Stick it to em

https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/11/investing/bank-of-america-fake-accounts/index.html

ai6yr,

@paulknightly BofA (at least, back when I was in school) was definitely death-by-a-million-small-fees; I have been convinced they survive due to people going "OH, I MUST TRUST THEM, THEY HAVE AMERICA IN THEIR NAME". Recent immigrants think it is the safest bank because it is the "Bank of America" thinking it is the US govt.
