Do any folks out there still compile their own ? I've never done this and part of me is thinking I'd like to try it out. In the world, the one I learned Unix on, it wasn't something generally encouraged.

@ablackcatstail It's a heck of a lot of work. Do-able, but definitely high on the challenge list (particularly since there are a lot of package dependencies downstream to get OTHER stuff to load).

@jhv It's a fairly routine thing, unfortunately, living next to those refineries (every few weeks... something might break, something vented, something spilled... lots of hazardous crud being moved around in pipes). You rarely hear what it was, unless it kills someone.

@mjf_pro @Chron There's probably a Chron article on it, but I recall that the Texas legislature has been trying to discourage renewables and penalize solar/wind with some laws (not sure if they passed, however).

Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/27/23775117/microsoft-windows-11-cloud-consumer-strategy What could possibly go wrong? What if the Microsoft Cloud goes down? For instance, if a surgeon needs to access crucial information about their patients during an operation and can't due to technical issues in Windows PC in cloud. The cloud is bad for emergency use cases. Is MS going to guaranty 100% uptime?
