Hi all, I am Tormod ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช (he / him)

My days are spent as a consultant in enterprise IT organizations, mainly focusing on teamwork and the people side of delivery. In particular with coaching, processes and enabling teams to work better together across departments and vendors.

My passions are in the areas of #photography, #graphicdesign, #typography and #music. And, of course, family โค๏ธ

Happy to talk to anyone, and I will assume you're awesome until proven otherwise.

@matt

Pro tip: always use gloves while biking. I have had my share of accidents, and while the various cuts and bruises can hurt, nothing heals as slowly as the hands. Also, you notice it more, because you kinda use them all the time.

Let's see if Mastodon hashtags work.

Has anyone travelled from to by car? Any scenic route recommendations?

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@normis

For scenic - choose Norwegian routes, for transit - choose Swedish routes along the Gulf of Bothnia. A bit simplified, but there you go.

A nice scenic area of Sweden would be to cross through Dalarna (Borlรคnge, Mora, Malung, Sรคlen - over to Norway towards Eleverum, Rena, Alvdal and beyond!)

Enjoy, and drive safely!

After a period of relative stability my Sonos speakers have once again begun blinking in and out of connection with my home network, as part of a long-running campaign to drive me insane

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@caseynewton

Mine too! Would love to hear if you find any solutions to this madness. My network is rock solid, so that's NOT my problem - these speakers have line-of-sight to the access points AND I have locked them to the closest one.

Thanks, and good luck!

tip: most teams would do well to act on the mantra "Stop starting and start finishing." Too many things in progress is a recipe for being slow and demoralizing to the team. Get things done. Repeat: Get things done. Stop starting - start finishing!

Funny how funding is rarely an issue for law enforcement activities... One of the largest police forces in the world being unable to find one guy, so let's just blow another $80K on this. They know EXACTLY who he is!

By all means, lock this idiot up, but the inability of the police to do their job is pretty blatantly on display here.

Amazing...

Right? It is such a sad display of the skewed allocation of public resources. (Those rewards are taxpayer funded.)

Right - so they know his name, exact age, have his photos, incl. tattoos, but STILL team Protect and Serve can't track him down? Let's just pay $80K (!) for some info on his whereabouts.

That's some impressive funding you've got there...

One of the more fun aspects of the new book (https://illusion.baldurbjarnason.com/) were the illustrations.

I wanted a constructed 'digital' vibe but wasn't sure how. With quite a bit of experimentation with Daz3D, Geometrize, and Affinity Photo I hit upon an aesthetic that I think works in this context.

I'm trying to adjust my Mastodon experience by finding more folks to follow.

Of the folks I follow now, a group of them engage each other a lot, one guy I follow who doesn't follow me back, and me very little unless I initiate it. That interaction is very much an ongoing, everyday conversation amongst friends. It's weirdly similar to how I started on that other site decades ago.

I don't love it.

I don't want small talk. I want engagement over shared interests. I want generative conversation. I did have an awesome zoom chat with someone I found here. I'm trying to organize a trip to an art org about 90 minutes away to meet another guy and see his work. I want more of this!

When I click on my introduction hashtags, I get quickly to my own post with those hashtags. I'm a bit stymied, and thinking I may just not find what I want on mastodon. Advice is welcome!

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@dchitt

Thinking of the "small-talk" aspect. I too used to have a hard time with that in a real-life setting. I am coping better these days, but I find it quite draining still.

However, online in a place like this, much of the interaction is asynchronous. There can be hours between each back-and-forth, so it's less of a "conversation" and more a "lenghty excange"?

Here I feel that short, positive and encouraging comments build trust over time. Small-talk doesn't need to be deep, but honest.

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@dchitt

In a physical setting, you can express your agreement, approval or doubts in a non-verbal manner. Body language, facial expressions and the way we just grunt a sound is totally missing online. Here we need to spell it out, so a short "Hey, I'm thinking the same thing" type of post doesn't do much, other than it validates that you have seen their argument and the OP knows you heard them.

You know, just react as a friend would.

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@dchitt

Well, I might have misinterpreted what you meant by "small-talk" too. I personally really hate the "How about them <Local Sports Team>", observations about current weather or talk of <Current Celebrity Game Show on TV>.

That type of talk is just for "not being rude" when you run into a neighbour, a distant aquaintance or sadly, extended family situations :)

Here in the Nordics, we refer to this as "cold talk" - it never goes into anything serious or controversial.

airwhale,
@airwhale@mastodon.social avatar

@dchitt

Ah, right... I'm gonna give myself a pass for not catching that context :) Hope you'll find the right set of people, I'm sure they're out there with similar interests.

Schools in Clay County, Florida ban dozens of books, citing laws proposed but not signed into law. Among books no longer available is The Handmaidโ€™s Tale.

The Handmaidโ€™s Tale by Margaret Atwood takes place in an unspeakably awful future. Spurred by a global plague of infertility, an extremist group called the Sons of Jacob staged a coup on the US government and sent progressive American society reeling backwards to totalitarianism, organized on Old Testament principles.
