There are some new comments on my #Inclusivity in #hamradio blog post on @kb6nu blog. I'm not sure if something happened to re-surface this conversation, but I am happy people are engaging with it.
Even "Joe" who threatens me to "support straight christain hetero males and females… we are the majority that pay to keep the arrl alive…remember that !"
Responding to an email from a local ham who must have read my blog post on #inclusivity in #hamradio. He sent me a pretty bad blog post from someone who argues that DEI is about socialism and stunts innovation. It's almost eugenicist in nature.
:heart_trans: small request / reminder about photo-sensitivity :heart_trans:
Hi friends! Ember here with a quick reminder to please be careful with media - especially animated media - that includes any of the following:
bright lights / colors
flashing or pulsing
gradient effects or patterns
rapid motion, movement, or animation
All of these can be uncomfortable or physically painful to people with photo-sensitivity. In some cases, such media can even trigger a migraine or seizure. When posting anything like that, please be sure to include a content warning on the post. Be especially careful with emoji reactions, as these may appear outside of the content warning. If you're ever in doubt, then err on the side of caution and add a content warning. You can also reach out to me or another member of staff for advice.
Thank you for understanding, and for helping to keep our instance safe and inclusive. :heart_trans:

Paris born #Nigerian#songstress Aṣa has just released her newest single, “Odo,” accompanied by a captivating #music video, much to the delight of her devoted fanbase.
While glimpses of #QueerRelationships are subtly depicted in the video, Aṣa’s understated representation underscores the importance of #inclusivity and #acceptance, particularly during a period when the #LGBTQ+ community continues to advocate for visibility and equality.
“How can #Christians celebrate both Yom Saint #Valentine Ha’Kodesh, and also Ash Fourthday, since they fall on the same #Christian date this year?”
I have it all worked out. I know a lot of Christians (I even have six (6) Christian friends) so I’m happy to solve this one for you. My Christian friends say I know more about Christianity than most Christians!
Tomorrow some of your Christian students may be observing the Christian holiday of Yom Saint Valentine Ha’Kadosh, more commonly known as Christian Tu B’Av. It is one of their important religious ‘Feast Days’ that even the least frum observe.
Speaking of his experience growing up gay and working-class in Wales, Welsh Labour leader Jeremy Miles says that he felt "on the outside" growing up, and this experience has caused him to say:
"The heart of my politics is that people should feel they belong.”

I attended the 2024 Winter School on "Teaching programming to non programmers" in Edinburgh last week and had the great pleasure of listening to Olivia Guest and Samuel Forbes speaking about this great #article they recently coauthored. I think as #educators (and as human beings, really...) we need to think more about this and act on it by making our practice more inclusive for everyone.
As a new generation rises, a new understanding of free speech is evolving on college campuses. Students who have no tolerance for speech that marginalizes draw lines around language that leads to damage, either psychological or physical. AP reports on the simmering tension between advocates for free speech and inclusivity. https://flip.it/iLtMQG #Culture#College#FreeSpeech#USA#Inclusivity
