This is it, the last XOXO ever. Really proud of this launch lineup, and I love the website @ashur and @emicab made for it. So fun! https://xoxo.zone/@xoxo/112480714014034873

@cabel Your post led me to this 21-year-long forum thread collecting research about the history of the original robot, which dates back to ~1938 Japan. Love this packaging. https://www.alphadrome.net/forums/topic/13496-lilliput-robot-main-research/

The latest Bobby Fingers video is a ride, as usual, recreating the moment just before '90s heartthrob Fabio was hit by a goose while riding a rollercoaster— or was he? The last five minutes are wild. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RIEPKEhE2s

This Japanese YouTuber covers songs using Family Composer for the Famicom Disk System and a bunch of '90s portable music sequencers. They're all delightful. Here's Pink Floyd's "Any Colour You Like" with multitracked overdubs?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhePsAHeCT0

Here's Steely Dan's "Peg" on the Family Composer. The video description says, "Enjoy the seaside café atmosphere." Perfect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ahLQnTq-d0

Here's "St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast," part of Frank Zappa's "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" suite from 1974, multitracked with two copies of Family Composer and the Yamaha QY70. This is gonzo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swvtt15jdJI

A bunch of these are process videos: here they are making another version of Steely Dan's "Peg," this time on the Roland PMA-5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrUmImNikgY

Someone contacted me about a blog post I wrote around 2004 about a 1993 issue of Wired I bought on eBay back then that they desperately need today and I probably still have it in a storage box sitting with old office things.

Given the current state of Google Search, I’m amazed they found any part of this.

So for reasons out of my control, the fresh Tedium we had planned to post needed to get delayed for a week. (It’s going to be a piece by @mattl, who I appreciate for being flexible amid chaos on my end.)

But the great thing about @tedium is that it has archives hundreds of miles deep, and it led me to resurface an eight-year-old piece about umbrella patents:

And you be clear of what I mean: there isn't any "non profit" reasons for a German company to stablish a non-profit entity in the US. Zero.

@javi Doesn’t having a 501(c)3 allow for donations from U.S. donors to be tax-deductible? I imagine that alone would be worth forming a U.S. non-profit arm

404 Media is doing a great job at getting tech companies to moderate bad actors on their platforms, impressive for such a small indie publication. Their reporting directly led to action at two major tech companies this week: Discord shut down the Spy Pet search engine that sold access to user messages. https://www.404media.co/discord-shuts-down-spy-pet-bots-that-scraped-sold-user-messages/

And Apple removed multiple AI “nudify” apps from the App Store.
