‘Despite appearing to contradict national guidance from the Department for Work and Pensions (#DWP), local jobcentre managers have refused requests from Citizens Advice Central #Dorset to guarantee that no further demands of mental health inpatients will be made.’

“Surely the fact that he’s sectioned is enough to know this person is not at a stage in their claimant journey when they could come and discuss ‘should I do an IT course?’ or whatever.”

Shameful.

anomnomnomaly,

@JugglingWithEggs A friend of mine was one of those the Tories screwed over when moving them from incapacity benefits to ESA.

They deliberately placed about 200,000 people in the wrong group. This denied them help with prescriptions and so forth. For years, they never even got an increase in those benefits. They forced the sick and disabled into destitution and poverty, and people died.

The tory scumbags lost judicial review after review, and in 2017 after 7yrs of this policy. 1/2

Oh for fuck's sake. My heart sinks when someone posts a link to an article, you go to read it and after a few lines the text starts to fade out. You just know a "sign up to read the rest of this article" thing is going to scroll into view.

Fuck off with that shite.

Is there still anything free from it?

Baking cookies really can just turn your whole day around 🍪

anomnomnomaly,

@soragrey

Yes... but the problems begin afterwards when you eat far too many of them and then complain about the gained lbs. 😆

anomnomnomaly,

@soragrey

It's not worth turning the oven on for 3-4 cookies... 3-4 times a day.

Unless.... GIANT COOKIES

Given all of the lawsuits around these LLM's and their slurping of others copyrights to train these ML programs.

What is your take on anyone using stuff generated by them for commercial gain?

Is something trained on 'pirated' material, that is used to produce something that then earns profit... ethical or moral?

Would/should the 'owners' of said ML be held accountable/liable for it?

So it appears that has decided to go down the route of every other remote desktop access software.

Restricting their free personal use access to try and force people to give them money.

This would be the 3rd time I've had to start looking for new software.

I use it to access the 3 systems in my own home only.

They keep cutting my sessions off... Last POS company that did that used to do it after 60 seconds. At least they're letting sessions last longer... for now.

Time to switch

anomnomnomaly,

@wild1145

It's mostly used to access my home server and my work rig. I don't have a big enough home office to allow me to have multiple desks and monitors. So the server and workstation are in the corner and I remote onto them.

It makes it so much easier... everything is on the same switch. So speed isn't an issue.

But I remember the bullshit pulled a few years back. It was nasty, fake 'commercial use detected' bullshit to try and con you into paying hundreds for a license yearly

wisteela, to linuxmint

They want you to pay for MS Word. You don't have to. Install LibreOffice and you've got a compatible office suite for free. been using it for years. I'd also recommend switching to #LinuxMint if you can.

anomnomnomaly,

@wisteela

Just installed libreoffice today, I'd given up on MS Office a decade ago.

I'd kinda been winging it with googles versions (docs/sheets). Realised I was just being lazy in sorting out an open source alt.

    I always ask if women unable to have children, or those who have had hysterectomies are still considered women by their rule.

    The confused looks you get from them is kinda amusing.

    I'm trying to convince the last friends I have left on Facebook, X, Threads, or BlueSky to join the Fediverse. Some have tried but felt a sense of loneliness. Nowadays, many people are so used to doing what algorithms suggest that they can no longer make independent choices.
    My timeline here, on the other hand, is beautiful.
    I see what I want, I follow people who post what I like, and no one tells me what I should do. Freedom may come with a "cost," but whatever it is, it's worth the effort. Always.

    anomnomnomaly,

    @me

    The problem with social media is always the same... people don't actually engage they 'trust' an algorithm to show them content and in return show theirs to others.

    On masto, you have to engage with others and let's be honest... most people are to lazy to do that. All they want to do is shitpost links for likes and expect everyone else to do their work for them by sharing it.

    That's why they don't get it... and you can't cure that sort of laziness overnight.

    Some vid clips from the gig last night.

    Hopefully no copyright issues with a few seconds of bad audio. 😆

    If ever there was a valid point to tell you that credit scores are worthless and are nothing more than an indication of how much interest lenders can get out of you... it when you are told that your credit score has dropped because you are using over 50% of your credit on one of your accounts... whilst at the same time telling that it's very positive that you are using less than 10% of your credit.

    Whilst also punishing you for daring to move and register on the electoral roll somewhere else.

    anomnomnomaly,

    So one of them decides to drop my credit 20 points out of 720, whilst another one has remained at 999 out of 999 for months.

    The only reason I got a credit card a few years back after decades without... was to improve my credit score.

    I pay my card in full every month. I never pay interest.

    They don't like it when you do that.

    In the last months of the 2,022nd year Earth Common Era, was led to the Mastodon herd by a werewolf from Melbourne, where they climbed up onto the thick matted wool of a beast affectionately known as AusSocial.
    Dgar gripped onto the coat and screamed “Hello World!” No one except the werewolf heard.
    Dgar began exploring, moving over the beast. So many interesting personalities, such diversity, and although no one seemed to notice them, Dgar noticed the inhabitants. They were being… nice to each other. Courteous and understanding of differing views and perspectives. Dgar was a bit weirded out, but continued to explore.

    Explore.

    Suddenly the view opened up and Dgar saw the herd for the first time. Beasts just like AusSocial, but all different in their own ways, stretching to the horizons, as far as the eye could see. And there weren’t just Mastodons either. There were all kinds of beasts, all carving out their own little niche. Someone behind whispered “That’s the Fediverse.” Dgar felt the presence of millions of people, working together, competing, evolving, developing… and despairing.

    Dgar wandered from feed to feed, community to community, and slowly began to realise that almost everyone was talking about the same things.

    Billionaires ruined some place that wasn’t anywhere near as good as where they are right now.
    The depressing state of politics and the media that supports it.
    Despair over misinformation and the people who believe it.
    Gun control.
    Climate change.
    Natural disasters.
    War. Murder. Disease.
    Stop!

    There’s no jokes.
    There’s no shitposting.
    There’s no laughter.
    There’s lots of love and understanding, but when you look for something funny, there’s a few people asking “Where are all the jokes and shitposters?”

    Dgar resolved to fill this niche, and began tooting every joke they could find. For several months, they tooted a joke or meme every twenty minutes while they were awake, and as often as possible while they were asleep. They would traverse great distances, well beyond the herd, to sift through what at times seemed like piles of refuse to find puns and funnies.
    After some time, Dgar became known for the funny toots, and many people followed them.

    Today, like most days, Dgar climbed up to take in the view of the herd, and a giant smile broke upon his face. There were jokes. There were memes. There were terrible puns. The toots emanating from the very top of AusSocial were light hearted and humorous takes.
    It was beautiful.

    And so Dgar finds themselves re-considering their place in the community. Does the Fediverse need Dgar to lift their spirit with stolen jokes, old puns, and scavenged memes?
    Maybe.
    But maybe not so much.

    Perhaps the 2,024th year Earth Common Era will be the year Dgar begins concentrating on what Dgar loves.
    Making music.

    Thank you all for your support. Big love to each and every one of you. ♥️
