@DZGrizzle Cartoons about Republican Jesus have been around a long time, but to hear people actually espouse those views is inspiring in a way. It makes me want to start a movement, call it "Conservative Christianity", and make some money off these people. Tax free! Then use their own dollars to fund homeless shelters and such...or is that where the scheme falls apart, once they get wise to it?

Installing Mac system software on your Ti-92 Plus gives you a calculator in your calculator.

apgarcia,
@apgarcia@fosstodon.org avatar

@NanoRaptor there's a great story about that Mac calculator! Forgive me if my details are off, but the gist of it is that the guy who wrote it got fired from Apple. But he came into the office anyway and worked on it, even enlisting the help of Apple employees. Before Apple got wise to the scheme, the product shipped!

I appear to have MiniDexed (and circle) supporting ST7789 displays now, which means I can use a Pimoroni Pirate Audio with MiniDexed!

If you only need USB MIDI this is about as simple an option as it will be possible to have.

It would be a particularly neat, self-contained Pi Zero USB Gadget...

@diyelectromusic sweet! Just curious, do you have a favorite audio shield for raspberry pi?

I may just admit to myself that I'm unlikely to really use some of the old kit like this Ultra-10 again. A lot of them have had the onboard (not trivial replaceable) battery due so they've lost the memory of what their MAC addresses were ...

@sxa it's a tough call. I still regret getting rid of my microvax, but there's only so much space.

Hipsters who threaten to leave America if Trump wins don’t understand that they have two options for migration: Marry, someone for a visa or spend $500k-$1million on a golden visa.

It’s a herculean effort just to get a bank account in another country.

Work visas are only available for STEM positions if you are recognized as being the very top of your field.

We aren’t really welcome in other countries. America is all we have, If we lose it, we lose eveything.

apgarcia,
@apgarcia@fosstodon.org avatar

@mhalligan I didn't look into this seriously, but when that guy was in office, I briefly looked it up once. IIRC, it costs $20K to become a Canadian citizen, and they have some sort of points system to determine whether you're approved.

I felt like a time traveler today. I asked a 26 year old guy, "Do you like Smashing Pumpkins?"

He looked confused for a moment, and then he said, "I don't think I've ever done that."

I explained that they were a band from Chicago that was fairly big in the 1990s.

"I've never heard of them," he said.

The CEO of Tata Consultancy Services thinks we are a year or so away from chatbots being able to analyze a customer’s account history and do most of what a human call center operator does today. He expects the need for humans will be minimal after that.

I agree that looks likely as call center interactions have quite a narrow script and a ton of data that can be used to train AI. Replacing humans with chatbots here feels inevitable and continuation of a decades long trend.

apgarcia,
@apgarcia@fosstodon.org avatar

@carnage4life imagine how hard it's going to be to actually speak with a human when you need to. I wonder if it will even be possible. Sounds nightmarish and dystopian to me.
