Can anyone who understands statistics with regards to covid infection rates understand why the rating, which used to be from 1-10 in severity is now calculated at 1-20?

What does that mean when I see a rate 'high' - 5.3/20 in Nova Scotia? Would that have been 10.6/10 before? And therefore severe? Or 2.6/10 which would have only been elevated.
I'm no good at these things!

@CuriosityCat @EllieK @DenisCOVIDinfoguy I did see those particular numbers in the thread. E.g. “Canadian COVID Forecast Mar 30-Apr 12, 2024

CANADA

MODERATE (no change)

About 1 in every 139 people infected”

Might be worth signing up for one of their COVID round table zoom meetings?

Then you could explain the process to me 🙃 (I’ve never delved too deep into it tbh).

Where has all that outraged 'expertise' gone that used to inform us about 'fake PCR positives'?
They realise PCR has been and continues to be used for eveything from identifying STI & faceal infections, to finding flu, common cold and pneumonia causes, to tracking down measles & monkeypox viruses?

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

@mackayim2022 You’ve been reading my mind 🙃

I’ve never had a patient ask “Do I have an STI from Chlamydia or with Chlamydia?” 🙃

The “we’ve never used PCR before argument” was and is so ignorant. So you know it’s always because they heard it from someone else.

Naturopathic medicine a solution to family doctor shortage? | CTV News https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/naturopathic-doctors-aren-t-solution-to-primary-care-crisis-doctors-health-experts-1.6820622

Thank you @DocMCohen

“When it comes to doctors, my concern is that many of them — and some of their organizations as well — will present them as though they are just a different form of ," said Cohen.

"They're not," she said.

"They're learning some anatomy and they're learning some physiology, but there's a lot that they don't do."

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

@DocMCohen sorry this just ticks me off. keep making this claim as if it’s something special they do.

This is the approach that all practice.

“Their approach is to look at the whole person. So not just their physical aspects, but mental, emotional, social, environmental (factors)," [O’Reilly] said.

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

@DocMCohen said she has looked "pretty thoroughly" into the training of naturopathic doctors and found neither the curriculum nor the clinical practice requirements equip them to diagnose and treat serious illnesses.

Although naturopathic doctors argue they do a four-year program like a medical doctor does, "it's deceptive the way they present that," she said.

Medical doctors must do at least two more years of residency after their four years of medical school before they can practice”

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

@DocMCohen sees a role for naturopathic doctors to work in co-operation with family doctors and nurse practitioners, as "part of a team providing care that's along their line of expertise." That could include consulting on lifestyle and diet….

Some may also be uniquely qualified to provide science-based counselling on vaccines to people who are hesitant and may not trust the medical system”

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

"Naturopaths presenting themselves as a solution to our current crisis is at the very least misleading. And from the perspective of a family physician, it's quite horrifying," said Dr. Sarah Bates, acting president of the Ab Med Assoc's family medicine section.

"Now, I do fundamentally believe that primary care is a team sport. We should be working collectively with nurses, with nurse practitioners and pharmacists and psychologists and complementing each other's practice, not competing with it”

auscandoc,
@auscandoc@med-mastodon.com avatar

Blake Murdoch, a senior research associate with the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta, agreed.

"Much of naturopathy is based on the principle that modern medicine only treats symptoms rather than (the) underlying cause, which is patently false other than when there is no effective treatment known to science," Murdoch said in an email.

"This is where alternative medicine supposedly 'fills the gaps' — with things that don’t work or are untested and potentially unsafe."
