What is a little white lie you were told as a child, that you believed for too long?

I was way too old when I figured out a human couldn't actually get sucked down a drain or flushed down a toliet. I used to cling to my little brothers, and pull them out of the bath any time my Mum would pull to plug.

@RickiTarr not white lies, just me being far too literal about things when I was 4-6 yo.

My first teacher told our class "you're blinking all the time, you just don't notice"

I thought for many years that everyone blinked, literally constantly, at a rate too fast to be perceived.

My dad once told me not to scratch my arm too hard as I'd scratch my skin off.

Again, I literally thought I was at risk of tearing off whole parts of my skin. So, for years I scratched any itch with extreme caution.

Just watched a video on Tiktok where someone was complaining about how hard it is to be a creator on all of the big social media apps because of their algorithms and how they all constantly change their formats.

Tetris (2023)

A highly fictionalised account of how Tetris (the video game) was licensed worldwide, for multiple platforms, from its inception in the crumbling Soviet Union.

The film succeeds in making the contract twists and turns highly entertaining and suspenseful. The main characters are very sympathetic, and skilfully portrayed.

Highly recommended.

Went to 🇲🇹 Malta’s National Aquarium yesterday, and besides the sea life, I found a cute new friend in the gift shop.

The power of regional accents.

I attended a meeting today with someone from Eastern Europe and someone from India.

Despite all being fluent English speakers, not one of us could understand any of the others with any regularity.

"I'm sorry I didn't understand what you said" was the predominant phrase.

Mrs Basil went out for a run tonight.

Was set upon by a passing group of kids who pulled her hair and tried to steal her hat.

She grabbed one of the stragglers and held him hostage for the return of her hat, screamed at all of them, before calling me in a frightened mess.

She's pretty shaken up and I think it's gonna be a long while before she can face going out for a run again.
