Maybe the best way to think of this is when a person says "men", unless they specifically say "all men", it's probably safe to read it as "far too many men" and if you aren't one of those men, congratulations it's not about you!

So it's OK to say "women are xxxxxx" and assume they'll know that I didn't mean "all women"?

I believe if you mean "most men", say "most men". If you mean all men, say all men. And yes, if someone says all men, I will feel offended that I was lumped in with misogynists, rapists, abusers, etc.

I don't like the generalization that comes from blanket statements and doing it under the guise of destroying the patriarchy is misguided and bashes the wrong people.
