“Taraval is one of those Parkside streets that runs right to the beach so you can look right down the street into the Pacific Ocean. The end of the continent. It always reminds me of the George Sterling poem: ‘At the end of our streets is sunset: at the end of our streets the stars.” https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/nativeson/article/san-francisco-favorite-sites-18628663.php

@rollovereasy Blue Heron Lake is fine but we missed a big cost-saving opportunity if we’d renamed “Stow Lake” to “Slow Lake” — we would have just needed an exacto knife to scrape off the sides of the “t”(and also confused drivers angry at slow streets)

In February 2023, I helped @mwichary run what became the #1 tech book campaign on Kickstarter for his massive tome, Shift Happens. How did we raise over $750,000 in the campaign (and sell more copies later)? How did we deal with the expected—and surprise problems? I've detailed all that in this essay: https://glennf.medium.com/how-we-crowdfunded-750-000-for-a-giant-book-about-keyboard-history-c30e24c4022e Hard-won advice from this weathered campaign veteran.

Sigh, fixing a lousy attic hatch in the house and found a roof truss with termite damage. (though... not surprising, 60-80% of homes in Southern California have termite infestations, the last time I checked).

So, according the Pew Research Center, there's a taco truck on every corner. Almost.

NB: Rio Arriba County, NM, represent! Also, the study did not distinguish New Mexican cuisine from Mexican, as we do in NM. I guess since the border crossed us, that's historical.

People biking on Valencia Street decreased by up to 53% after the unintuitive, dangerous center bikeway was installed.

SFMTA data from September shows a significant decrease, highlights need to install curbside protected bike lanes.

PSA: a lot of wrapping paper isn’t recyclable :(

“Metallic or plastic holiday wrapping paper. Instead, look for types that feel like regular paper, without shiny or plastic coatings. If you can crumple it and it stays crumpled, or it rips easily, it’s likely recyclable, according to the Resourceful app via the Ecology Center in Berkeley”
