Oh jeez, haven't they been through enough already?

cazabon,

Stop. The first part sounded like almost-an-apology, but this kind of weasel-language just throws that in the toilet.

Just #admit that 1) you don't have sufficient audit records to know what information was accessed or for which clients, 2) you done screwed up, and 3) that anyone might have it by now, and you'd have no way to know it.

cazabon, to journalism

The 's constant "On the one hand... on the other..." approach to pretty much every is definitely not helping the general public's apparent endorsement of the "For every , there is a simple, easy-to-understand ".

If we want an educated - or at least informed - public, we have to stop over-simplifying the issues and facts, turning them to blenderized pablum, and get people to appreciate that real life isn't simple, black-and-white.

37 clicks! And you thought MS Edge was difficult to shut up.

hardwired,

@cazabon These smart TVs are such a scam. You really have to dig around now to find a that isn’t a machine. Most people don’t seem to know or don’t care that these things are listening to us, etc. I might have to buy a big monitor next time my old TV dies to protect my .

cazabon,

@hardwired

I will never, ever connect my TV to the internet. If it has no network access, it can't phone home.

When the manufacturers start shipping them with builtin LTE modems and no way to disable them, then it's pitchforks-and-torches time.

cazabon, to random

The recent - the decoder for the image is buggy, so you can fashion an image that will get full pre-secure-boot control of the machine at the level - seems to be getting way too much credit. Am I wrong here?

To be able to drop your specially-constructed image in the EFI system partition on a Linux machine, you need root privileges. So you need a chained remote-root vulnerability first.

(Or local access, but that's game over anyway)

Am I wrong here?

I have, literally, 7 different flavours of subminiature crimp-pin connectors in my parts collection.

And yet, somehow, whatever I'm working on has a nearly-identical-but-not-quite kind that isn't in my collection.

How do I ?

cazabon, to community

So earlier this evening, my partner got a notification that a #package had been delivered to our #CanadaPost #community #mailbox -- i.e. in a separate delivery from the usual mail during the day.

I went out to check, and indeed they had left the #key for package compartment "2B" in our box.

With the key snapped off right at the base of the big plastic "gas station bathroom key attached to a cinderblock" fob...

No package tonight, I guess!

Yes. The inspector had previously told me they had loads of #problems from that guy, but of course very little could be done about it - #public #sector #unions in this country essentially make it #impossible to fire or even discipline their members, no matter how egregious, incompetent, or even malicious they are in the performance of their duties.

Of course, the bad apples are the exception, not the rule - but they ruin things for everyone.

I Have #Stories... maybe someday.

cazabon, to Leaf

When the guy who invented the leaf blower died, did they just scatter his ashes over the neighbouring graves?

(Yes, neighbours clearing their snow with a leaf blower is a sore point for me. The prevailing winds mostly dump it on my driveway.)
