(I work at Slack, opinions my own) A bunch of people are sharing viral social media posts saying that we train LLMs on customer data. It's a story that slots neatly into the hype/doom narrative around AI.

But it's not true — we even wrote a whole blog post about it last month: https://slack.engineering/how-we-built-slack-ai-to-be-secure-and-private/

Not discounting the other concerns around LLMs (e.g. hallucinations, environmental impact) that are totally legitimate.

@mattbrowndev @sebastian I've just read the Ars article linked in https://phpc.social/@Crell/112457889095716217 - I still believe GDPR requires active consent for any data being collected for any purpose that wasn't consented to before. And henceforth, it would still be a good advice from opting out as well, until things are clarified with that regard as well.

It's far more effective (though not really much) to write to MPs with your own words.

Dear community! Could someone with power please raise an RFC to make the strict parameter of the in_array() built-in function true by default? It's really annoying to remember putting true as the third parameter every time, and not doing it might potentially lead to weird bugs. Thanks!

What's the lowest amount you've paid for something using a credit card?

Went to the market the other day and paid for a £2 punnet of fruit using a credit card. Guy was running Square on his phone, showed me the screen, I tapped, done.

I remember when everyone was £10 minimum for card payments, even in large shops. Now sole-traders can take instant payment for low value amounts. Brilliant!

@Edent £0.50 for a packet of tissues at boots, probably. But I think there are also much lower fees for "tap with phone or card" compared to using the actual credit/debit card part of the card (at least, in the UK)?

The BBC gets a lot of stick, but some programs alone are worth the Licence.
