First measurements since I am back from my business trip in Vegas. I’m officially under 195 lbs (88.5kg). In the first 30 days of my #weightlossjourney I’ve lost almost 20 lbs (9 kg) and 5.6 inches (14.22cm) on my waist.
So I am definitely on track to be in shape for #DEFCON and I even took my time at Mandalay Bay to walk a few miles on the casino to simulate my walking around for hours. This was the first time since COVID I walked miles with no loss of breath or pains. #fitness#exercise
@chiefgyk3d How long did it take you after having COVID to get back to that place? I was so happy with my gym routine right before I got hit with it, and im concerned about how long Ill have to wait before I'm able to get back to it
People are constantly shocked when they find I use an iPhone as my personal device and I have to explain, "It's not that I like Apple more than Google, it's that I hate Google more than Apple."
@chiefgyk3d then you get hit with the "but then why not use <insert completely obtuse option which, yes, would be better for privacy overall, but would also absolutely hinder my ability to interface with other people within reasonable limits>"???
@caseynewton Just re-subbed on the new site! Ghost is lovely, I use it for two publications at the moment and am pretty happy. Curious how it contrasts with Substack at your scale!
For anyone else (likely ADHD folks) who deal with that: ignore the voice in your head thats telling you the thought you had is important enough that you'll remember it.
@clive absolutely. I've also taken to jotting down random ideas and thoughts about projects before they escape me. When I'm out and about especially, my mind is usually trying to solve problems in unrelated crap. Every now and then I get a good idea--gotta get it written down or it'll be done in 60 seconds
If you have a Windows machine and you aren't using PowerToys, you should fix that asap. Essentially adds missing features that Windows really, really should just ship with.
@ptl tiling window management, color picker hotkey, spotlight/alfred-style quick launcher, keyboard remap manager, host file editor ui with presets, improvements to the file explorer, a quick preview system (similar to Preview in macOS), encryption tools, tons of stuff
Is it theoretically possible or even reasonable to imagine phones or devices being able to lip read?
Horrifying security implications aside, wondering if something like apples Face ID infrared scanning or whatever could accurately enough lip read for something like silently dictating text.
Hi, I'm stuck waiting on laundry to finish and am bored, so why don't I come on here and write some hot takes about YouTube?
I mean, I can think of several reasons, but too bad I'll do it anyway.
Knowing the leanings of the folks on this particular platform this is likely to spark some debate, but note that I'm not trying to paint YouTube as a saint - in fact, the first thing I want to talk about is a strategy they've taken which puts me and all YT creators in a weird place:
@TechConnectify I've had premium for a while as well because I do a lot of watching on TV/PS5 apps as well as mobile. While I have DNS level ad blocking, it would often cause apps to break.
I think a part of it is also just that people don't like to pay for software / networks because they didn't previously have to do so. And while I'd prefer to pay someone other than Google, there really isn't a viable alternative yet, as you noted.
(All of course said with giant asterisks everywhere)
