Pretty sure late on a Friday night is the worst time to release something new, so... let's do it! Here's Metaphysical Shitposting, my latest album!

https://etherdiver.bandcamp.com/album/metaphysical-shitposting

This is an album-in-progress, meaning I'll be adding material to it (and maybe even changing stuff that's already there) over time. Right now, it's two tracks and you can get it for $3. As tracks are added the price will go up, but if you buy it now, you own all of it forever no matter how many tracks are added.

@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@etherdiver I love that album title. :) Very much enjoying "Skeletons, Murder and Witchcraft" so far as well!

I need to put together a trello board for all the shit we still need to do that is not music related for the release of Salvation on November 28.

I’m so tired.

@jessica I totally identify with that feeling, and I appreciate your support in helping it feel less that way lately. :)

Ahoy friends. Another week another 12 existential crises...

With regards to safe, simple, clean and honest place to offer tunes in a non social platform, non shop, we are about to make public our RFF community where you can have your own space as an artist for preview, share, embed, download, and requesting sales/donations.

If that suits you, we have a very simple onboarding process tested where you just offer well tagged flac files, possibly even a zip from BC, and that's it.

No one should feel bad about trying the first option of turning something off and turning it back on again. I was just talking to somebody who is a little less familiar with technology, and they felt bad that this was one of the first things they tried.

In fact, engineers restore everything back to a last known good state all the time before doing troubleshooting. It’s a really smart choice, and people shouldn’t feel bad or stupid for using it as an option in troubleshooting.

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@Tarah I used to fix computers for a living, and that's often my first go-to move. I'd say it's one of those jokes that is based in reality.

Can’t do a fucking thing about anything.

The future sucks and is not at all what young me hoped for.

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@jessica I often say that punk changed my life. One can obviously never know what might have been, so perhaps something else might have come along to open my eyes, but looking into what the bands I liked were yelling about pulled me off the straight & narrow conservative path my parents (mostly dad) were guiding me down.
So yeah, music is definitely not nothing.

The US would be wise to have a Stable Majority Party whose planks:

  • do right by the common "bottom" 90% of us

  • forbid/discourage grifters, victim cults & SIGs

  • forbid lies & liars

  • forbid traitors & criminals

NEITHER the Dem or Repub parties of today meet these criteria. so we need something to replace them. but do it in a "safe" way, like by only running in "ranked choice voting" elections. that way you vote for Ideal Choice &
Lesser Evil

and not throw the win toward the Greater Evil

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@screwtape @synlogic
@mara and I have been talking about how much your country (where she's from) is beginning to resemble the US in all the wrong ways.

Re: the current US political duopoly... I don't see how we can expect to get RCV through under the circumstances, & voting Dem isn't safe. Seems to me the best way forward is to encourage 3rd party votes. If everyone who says they would if they thought there was a chance did (incl. those who don't vote due to 2 evils), we'd be well on our way.

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@screwtape @synlogic @mara @strypey I know politicians here act/speak as though they have a "mandate from the people" even when it is a lesser-evil situation, but I don't know if they truly (naively) believe that or if it's just more attempts at manufacturing consent. Tempted to believe the latter.

@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@strypey @screwtape @synlogic @mara Re: EYE... not to derail the convo, but they are awesome! A band I was in way back was on a compilation with them once, been a fan ever since.

Cherry Audio just released an emulation of the Korg PS-3300, a semi-modular synth from the late 70's. No shade meant here for CA, as I'm a happy user of a few of their products, & their prices are generally reasonable compared to similar products from some others.

However, I know quite well that sometimes even cheap can be too expensive, so if that's the case for you, you may be happy to learn that Full Bucket has a free PS-3300 sim.

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Side note: although neither of them have native Linux versions, I have had good luck running both Cherry Audio and Full Bucket stuff via yabridge.

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@amadeus yabridge is indeed great! One could definitely get by happily with just native Linux stuff these days, but there are a few things I've personally gotten rather hooked on that I'm glad work with yabridge.

I've been putting off switching fully to Linux for years because there was always something I would miss too much, but my latest foray into that realm has been way better, so I'll likely never put windows on another machine. :)

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@billyjoebowers
Are you familiar with Wine? Yabridge is (from what I understand) essentially putting a Linux VST wrapper around Windows VSTs that uses Wine (or elements of it) to run the win VSTs in Linux software. I'm far from a security expert, but again from what I understand, Wine is relatively safe in this regard.

Still a few hours left of in this time zone, so I'll mention this one too, for those whose tastes run to the noisier side of things.

This is a collection of noise and dark ambient from my project Skin Contact, containing re-tweaked and re-recorded versions of tracks that originated in the Noise Therapy sessions that I post regularly.

What’s wild among other things as we close in on the true arrival of the with our Salvation statement release, is that for a long time we weren’t even sure if it would ever be released

I was so incredibly sick with Bipolar 1, and it was unclear if I’d even be alive right about now

But thanks to lithium, I’m here, still queer, and ready to twist the knife in all in my path.

We have created our magnum opus and it will begin leaking sooner than you may expect.

No gods no masters

Not to be too doomerish, but with the future of Bandcamp in question yet again (look into Songtradr if you don't know what I'm talking about), this would be a great week to support artists on the upcoming Bandcamp Friday. I'm confident that we will, uh, find a way, but things could very well become more challenging for many artists soon.

Gonna drop a plug here in case you'd like to support my most recent release. :)

ffs!
this shit does not sound good at

The whole SongTradr thing is not sitting well with me, but BC is the only place I release and I have no real contingency. Self hosting sounds like a nightmare, but perhaps that's where we are headed?...

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@yoniden I'm right there with you my friend. I did self-hosting before BC, but that was also before security became as complicated as it is now.

I'm thinking itch.io could be a possible solution?

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@yoniden it is mostly a games/software place from what I gather (that's definitely what I've gone there for), but I've seen some others talking about using it for music. Some folks have even done some stuff to help automate the process, but I haven't taken the time to check these out yet myself, beyond reading the sites:

https://github.com/blackle/blamscamp

https://github.com/fluffy-critter/pyBlamscamp

fstateaudio,
@fstateaudio@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@jamesbritt @yoniden here's a post from @jessica that shows one solution. I personally don't want to use AWS, but ymmv, as they say.

https://www.voidconspiracy.com/creating-a-self-hosted-music-storefront-using-aws-s3-and-sendowl/

I used paypal w/an automated protected d/l system back in the day, haven't really looked into modern equivalents.

I have a remix on this album! This is the first time another artist has asked me to remix their work, and at first that surprises me, but then I remember how bad I am at "networking" and "getting myself out there" and "promoting my art." But since I was asked, I went all-out on my remix, which has been described as "epic." Go check it out! PLEASE. I put a lot of effort into this.
