    The Ghost at the Crossroads (1893) by F Manley from The Ghost Slayers in the British Library Tales of the Weird collection.

    A story published in our local newspaper, the South London Press, 130 years ago. It's the tale of a Christmas encounter at night on a snowy road and all the perils of a "time for great freedom". Caricatural in its portrayal of locals but amusing enough.

    I am reading Call of Cthulhu and I refuse to believe this is not intended as comedy. Your stats include Size and Appearance (famously relevant in many cosmic horror stories?) There are descriptions of things called a Brain Cylinder and Domination Serum and Plutonian Drug? I canโ€™t believe I let people convince me this was a horror game
