    The Ghost at the Crossroads (1893) by F Manley from The Ghost Slayers in the British Library Tales of the Weird collection.

    A story published in our local newspaper, the South London Press, 130 years ago. It's the tale of a Christmas encounter at night on a snowy road and all the perils of a "time for great freedom". Caricatural in its portrayal of locals but amusing enough.

    Here she is on the right. And that's her only appearance in the issue. She doesn't get a name, or even a face.
