So we have via rail tickets booked for August and naturally I loaded the tickets in Apple Wallet… then a few days later I got an email saying the schedule was going to change and now I’ve gotten 2 new sets of tickets and I’m sick of adding and deleting tickets 🥸 I should be able to just use the same set of tickets regardless of what schedule changes but I’m annoyed at this process. If the time changes by 5 minutes and I need a whole new set of tickets? Gesus…

We’ve put roughly 4,800 kms on two e-bikes in just over a year. ~2,800 on the Yuba (no riding Dec-March) since end of April last year and 2,000 kms on our Load4 75 Reise & Muller since the end of August, 2023. We’ve had lots of bus trips and I’m averaging only 9 kms of walking a day. Living without a car can be very fucking frustrating and limiting in a city like but I wouldn’t trade it for anything

Gunna give myself some props here. I attempted focaccia today, well yesterday then it was in the fridge till today. Learned a few things and will make more but it’s pretty tasty if I say so myself. First time in my life I’ve ever made bread… gunna just keep trying new things

I’m reading Elamin’s “Son of Elsewhere.” I’ve been pretty sparing with what bound books I spend time reading. I’ve loved Elamin for a long time and his book is wild. The journey of his writing is beautiful.

“If you look like me, here is something you understand internally, before you’re ever told: in America, when presidents need to look like they’re doing something, they take it out on Brown and Black bodies … We are the canvas of brutality.”

A lotta spray and pray for these types of images given how packed (which is awesome) all the paths are around #ottawa and have to pay attention a LOT but it feels fun and free so gunna try a bunch of these over the summer #ottbike #gabesimages #biketooter

Wild how it took so long to do something so simple. Not that I long to visit the byward Market but Majors Hill or Rideau Falls were rarely on the list of destinations if this was the direction of travel. But this makes basic access possible especially with the bridge open and the new NCC lookout on the +50% complete?? status

We’re going to in August to watch the Red Bull Cliff Diving event, as we have a friend whose daughter has been competing (and winning) for 3ish years in the sport. It’s also for my 40th birthday 👀 Anyway the part I’m most excited about is taking the train 😂

I try to find and follow urban design, electrification, active transit experts who aren’t white dudes mostly on instagram, and I found one in Australia who I really liked until their litmus “test” for electric cars was “does a wine bottle fit in the front cup holders” 🙃🙃 Like of all the metrics to test this is the one you focus on… because you think it’s funny? People sometimes

Fuck no. There should be well-paid career trajectories for this type of work and it should be incorporated into a Climate Corp structure . It’s highly skilled work, dangerous and there’s huge value in expertise retention. It’s great that university students feel drawn to this but 12 hr days for up to 14 days in a row is brutal, regardless of what Alpha Male chumps whine about #cdnpoli #canada #alberta #climatechange

I don’t know if we’re prepared for how many people do not and will not give a fuck about serious transmissible infectious disease outbreaks and future pandemics. Considering is already over according to every government and no one is seriously grappling with what happened over the past four years, I’m not hopeful on a large scale

I think a lot about how in 2024 if “democracy” is supposed to continue/succeed in its current shitty structure, majority governments are going to have to be a thing of the past. “Compromise” mostly doesn’t exist anymore. Nothing “really” has been done for good on aggregate with majority governments in a while. All that exists as a bulwark is the court system unless the general public grows a spine but that isn’t a reliable counter measure

The kid ate shit twice on a bike ride of less than 2 km because this city gives zero shits about wildly large curb cuts (and everything else). The fact that Britannia intersection by Beachconers is as horrid as it is being, I’d argue one of the most busy intersection for folks not in a car is proof enough. And the entrance to the kids school is soooooo bad and busted up that its almost impossible to enter on a bike and the kid ate it right in front of his own school

I followed Diane Deans pretty closely from 2019-2023 and say what you will about her but she gave no fucks about Jim Watson. And today not a single councillor who blindly followed Jim’s shadow had a damn thing to say about her. Just deep seated, pathetic cynicism

“… how that policy fits in their low-rise community.” Hahaha you live close to Algonquin college and a 2-story building just busts the great character of your community huh? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/proposed-rooming-house-discord-near-algonquin-college-a-sign-of-things-to-come-1.7204363

Step-daughter of a friend of ours saw the 11-yr old kid get killed in Rockland, by someone driving a school bus, while they were riding their bike. What the fuck…

I’ve said it a bunch of times but I completely changed the route we take to the kids school which is only 1.2 kms away. We take a ~ 2 km route to avoid the utter mayhem that takes over people during drop offs and pick ups, esp school bus and transport vans

The solution is to raise speed limits on highways, because data is stupid and definitely should NOT be used to help inform policy ever #ontario #onpoli https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/opp-number-fatalities-last-year-deadly-year-1.7204528

This is not cheering for the pay workers get at Chinese EV manufacturing companies or the supply chains etc but the fact that North American car companies have made zero moves to make simple, low cost EVs is pathetic. “Flood the market” blah blah blah. There’s no free market anyway just protectionism, government subsidies and the gatekeeping to keep EVs at $50,000 a piece. Say nothing of the song and dance about getting folks into EVs

It is beyond wild to me that the city cut annual funding to the Tulip Festival. Ya’ll are baffled on how to connect Dows Lake and the Byward Market?? Seriously?? The NCC couldn’t even close all of the QED, but no shade to them when they are responsible for any livability in #ottawa The festival weekends at Dows Lake are the best weekends in this city in the entire year and props to the Feds #onpoli #cdnpoli

I despise this whole section of highway all the way to North Bay. Good fucking thing raising speed limits will produce better outcomes in head on collisions… JK I know the speed limits aren’t being raised here and they are also not enforced. I’d be happy to never have to use this highway ever again https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/highway-417-ottawa-arnprior-kinburn-1.7203959
