We need to STOP running DOOM on new things
and START putting new things into DOOM.

For example, today I added micro-transactions to the original game. Any time you pick up an item, the game freezes until you make a payment.

opening DOOM from the command line. start a new game. immediately walk to health item. when the character touches it, the game freezes and a QR code pops up. I scan the qr code with my phone and a credit card payment UI is displayed. I enter fake credit card details, hit submit. A second later the web page on the phone says "Payment Complete" and the game on the computer resumes.

We've got this cheap egg cooker that plays the loudest, most terrifying alarm you've ever heard when it's done cooking. My wife requested that I make it "less aggressive" so I hacked it into the most gentle egg cooker of ALL TIME

Before shot: egg cooker finishing an egg before modification. Jarring alarm goes off, I say "fuck!" After shot: egg cooker finishes. A few moments later, a small mechanical music box next to the cooker starts playing Pachelbel's Canon

shot of me walking up to an IBM ThinkPad trackpoint nub mouse mounted in a lightswitch faceplate on my wall. I show that pushing it up and down dims the lights overhead. Then I pull out a phone with a white screen and a picture of a trackpoint in the middle. When I hold and drag it, the lights also dim wirelessly.

Working on a project with multiple cameras and was surprised to find few options for cheap embedded USB cams. Lots of stuff to be driven by micros/RPis.

However!! I discovered that if you look for OV2640 or OV5640 cams on AliExpress/eBay, some of them ship with little USB adapter boards. Didn't notice as first because they tend to use 5-pin molex connectors rather than actual USB ports 😝. $10 w/ camera included, and you can swap them out if you want different lenses.

Got the new Jumperless breadboard and realized that I could have a CircuitPython app WIRE UP IT'S OWN CIRCUIT and then run the actual code. You hit save with changes and both the changes to the wiring and the code boot near instantly!!

running a circuitpython app with a chunk of code commented out. There is a button and an LED on a black breadboard with an Arduino Nano ESP32 hooked up. I hit the button and nothing happens. I bring back the chunk of code, the rows of the breadboard hooked up to the button and led light up. I start hitting the button, the LED lights while the button is pressed.

Having fun with a project that uses USB cameras. Doing some DIY HDR to deal with uneven lighting. I learned that:

A) If your webcam is a standard UVC (USB video class) cam, it may expose params that you can change (exposure, white balance, focus etc). Even the really cheap ones!

B) (of course) there's an imagemagick command to average a bunch of shots into one.

I wrote a script to set the exposure to three different settings, taking a photo after each. Look at the lamp, mantle and cabinet.

• Aren't you cleaning yourself?
  Second half of shower is for cleaning, phone gets placed outside.

• Doesn't the screen get wet/unusable?
  I simply don't let it get that wet.

• What are you doing?
  Doomscrolling, YouTube, etc.
