@mrundkvist In German we say "die Kuh vom Eis holen", "to get the cow off the ice", for resolving a tricky situation. Similar imagery, but definitely a different expression.

@justkwin I've been doing the same, and I love it when it works, but it only seems to work when I initiate the chat. Is that to be expected? I haven't been able to figure out how to join a chat on the AppleTV someone else invites me for.

@gernot In my case it doesn’t appear to be buggy (although I had to reboot my AppleTV once a few weeks ago to get Continuity Camera to work again). The release notes for 17.2 list answering calls on the ATV as a new feature, so it wasn’t supposed to work earlier. I haven’t been able to test it yet, but I expect it to work now.

This album was one of my sounds of the 6th form. It used to be a battle between our circle of friends who wanted this, the Damned, the Stranglers, the Clash or REM on the tape deck and everyone else who opted for Queen, Level 42, Phil Collins or Dire Straits.

This interesting piece, "How less-gendered language is faring across Europe," introduced a term from German I haven't heard before: the gender star.

It goes after the stem and before the suffix. For example, a male citizen is a Bürger, a female citizen a Bürgerin, and the gender-neutral form is "Bürger*innen."

It's not at all a settled form yet, and there's also the "gender gap" form that uses an underscore, "Bürger_innen," and some people just write "BürgerInnen."

I would pay close to infinity dollars for @MarvisApp to work on the Mac. Not only is the app is very high quality and so polished, but it provides an endless amount of customizability that lets me create the perfect music listening experience for me. I've been using it for years and still think 10/10, one of the best apps out there.

Back from my break for a few days with a hot take:

All email apps for iOS/iPadOS mostly suck in some way or another (poor native UI; lack of integrations; lackluster search). Yes I have tried them all.

Mimestream for Mac is the only good, modern email client for Apple users and it can't come soon enough to iPhone and iPad.

@viticci I will never use Gmail, so that's not an option for me. I used Mulberry until it wasn't possible anymore, and now I'm quite happy with MailMate. But there isn't anything good for iOS/iPadOS.
I'd settle for Thunderbird for iPad. Just give me full IMAP support.

Die Tagesschau redet von "hohen" Immobilienzinsen, dabei sind die immer noch rund einen Prozentpunkt unter dem, was ich mal bezahlt habe. Und damals war das in der Wahrnehmung gar nicht ungewöhnlich hoch. Aber durch die lange Zeit extrem niedriger Zinsen hat sich das offenbar völlig verschoben.

U.S. healthcare is so fucking stupid.

On Wednesday night, I started having some abdominal pain. This morning it hadn't gone away, and I also had a fever, so I made the first available appointment at the local urgent care, at 2:40 p.m. There were eight people ahead of me when I arrived and I didn't get home until 5:00.

The diagnosis was that it's probably diverticulitis, so go to the ER, get blood pulled and get a CT scan…
