@ai6yr having had IVs, I wouldn’t be terribly excited about getting unnecessary ones

Logging onto the Fediverse every day, I think of my friends and their cats and wonder: "I wonder if they have a cute cat photo today, or if they are in the ER having been viciously mauled by the cat for foolishly trying to trim their nails/brush them?"

hisstogramma,
@hisstogramma@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@ai6yr i do the one nail per day method. Kind of how i cut my kid’s hair when he was little and very busy. One snip a day and eventually it equals a haircut.

@ai6yr Nice! I’ve got these pipevine swallowtails. I wish i could trade you some!

The pumpkin patch with a few dahlias and sunflowers mixed in. All done in pots - using about 25% compost to improve water holding capacity. Dahlias especially need more than just potting soil.

I missed this... Vermont State University Castleton has given a cat an honorary Doctorate.

@ai6yr love this!! Maybe UCD could bestow such an honor on Cheeto — the beloved campus cat.

Hmm, one wonders if this is "Jan. 6" style popcorn or prior-to-2016 standard patriotic popcorn?

A story in 3 photos. A super cool chicken farm with a roadside egg, honey, and butter stand. Pay $0.25 for chicken feed. Happy chickens break out of the ranch (plus some sparrows) and come on over for snacks. Brilliant marketing department.

CNPS vernal pool workshop today at Jepson prairie. Stunning flowers and several rare plants. My boots were yellow at the end of the day from the goldfield pollen.

This handsome fellow is a stray that shows up at dark for 2 or 3 dinner servings. My other kitties are mostly fine with him with just a few paw slap fights. Tried finding his people but no luck. I’m thinking we might be his people now. He won’t let me pet him yet - but I’ll keep trying. His name for now from my son is “orange kitty”

Tulip planting over the break. About 2,000 going in. These are pre-chilled, thankfully, because the beer fridge would not hold all of these.

The other night:

Me: "I think there's something alive in that box!"

My son: "You're imagining things!"

Me: " I hear something"

(we check box, take it outside... nothing)

Today: "rustle, rustle"

(looks UNDERNEATH THE BOX)

(large Jerusalem cricket trapped in the tape holding the box shut!!! Had to put it out of its misery... but it's been here for a week 😬 )

(after figuring out it is near useless for slug trapping, and mostly just good for keeping the Wood Rat happy).

More pie practice. All butter crust. Apple pie on the left and blackberry on the right. Next time I’ll try a lattice crust. I cooked both fillings before putting them into the bottom crust to deepen the flavor and avoid soggy bottoms.

The first of the dahlias are coming up. This year I remembered to pinch out the plants to make them bushier so I get more flowers and they aren’t so tall. I will still need to stake them though. #dahlia #gardening
