As if I haven't milked this rather photogenic pie for social media likes enough, as I pull it out again for #lunchPie I can't resist another pic or two.
I made a peach pie! My quest is completed. This from a big honking jar of Bulgarian peaches. It should keep me happy until the fresh local Ontario peaches come along in summer.
Summer says it's time for action. Her pal is a little down in the dumps.
We decided the best solution was to bake his favorite pie.
Summer was on board with that plan, so I went in search of enough apples for two pies.
Just in case any of the grandkids are down in the dumps, too.
Pies don't fix anything, but they help and smell really good. #Summer
I started on Friday, soaking the wheat grains. Yesterday, I cooked the wheat grains to form Panno Cotto. It was left to set in the fridge overnight. (I have much more than I need right now)
Today, I started on the pie filling. Which in turn meant I had to make candied orange peel, and crema pasticcera (Italian Pastry Cream - essentially a thick custard).
I now have the filling and the pastry made, although the pastry has to rest in the fridge for an hour or so now.
Ah, the Hilltop Diner Cafe in Langley! It's been far too long since I dropped by for my favourite burger and a wedge of the best banana cream pie in BC. Today is a good day to pie! #food#burger#pie#diner #todayisagooddaytopie

It's Pi Day, the day that celebrates π, which, written in decimals, begins 3.14, or March 14. For @TheConversationUS, Daniel Ullman, a professor of mathematics, writes about the silliness of Pi Day, and the universality of π, which, he says "lives not only in this universe but in any conceivable universe. It existed even prior to the Big Bang. It is permanent and unchanging."
In this article, also for @TheConversationUS, math professor Manil Suri makes the case for other math holidays. "For January, I nominate the Golden Ratio, phi," he says. "Phi equals 1.618…, and since there’s no Jan. 61, we could celebrate it on Jan. 6." He'd like to see shindigs for Euler's number (Feb. 7), and Feigenbaum’s constant delta (April 6 — or maybe 7, if we're rounding up). Read more here.
Because of all the weird "14/3 is approximately π so we'll call today #PiDay" nonsense, lots of people are posting pictures of #pie. I have yet to see one which is actually a #TruePie. It is only a pie if the filling includes meat, and is entirely contained within two pieces of pastry. Most of what people are posting are #Tarts.
(Following iso 8601 date format; year, month day, 3 14 looks like pi. A great moment to celebrate pi. Almost as good as 6 28 which is tau day or twice pi day both good excuses to give out pie)
I am pretty sure my husband likes the smell of the pies baking just as much as he likes eating them.
I pulled some of our raspberries and blackberries out of the freezer yesterday so we could have pie for dessert today.
I decided to bake one medium and one small so we can share. Razzleberry is our son in law's favorite, so we will surprise him with a personal pie.
Everybody likes baked goody, surprises. #Pie#Baking
Well, I heard through my special intelligence network that the grandkids wanted a pumpkin pie. Since I heard from such a reliable source, and it sounded urgent, I figured I'd better get on it. #Pie
I bake pies frequently.
Most of them are given to friends and family.
My husband decided he wanted to keep this one.
It is raspberry, frozen from our garden, blackberry frozen from my daughter's garden and a few blueberries from our bushes.
It's time to use what is in the freezer so we have room for the next harvest.
Smells very berry in the house. #Pie#Baking
Snowing a lot. Managed to do a round of clearing despite my limp knee, riveted the metal lip onto the big snow shovel that kept falling off and then did another round of clearing because several centimeters had come down while I was in the garage.
Have to toss the snow over the hedge to the neighbours as there's no room left on our side.
The riveter head also got disassembled and serviced as it had some boat rust and wasn't working well.
