    Just wrapped up by and absolutely loved it! I was a little hesitant to jump in when I learned it was done in an "interview the characters" style, but thankfully my fears were squashed quickly. It's a well written piece that explores the idea that we are not alone in the universe but also that something way beyond our comprehension was left for us to find.

    I followed up 's 1984 with 's companion piece which retells the story of the original from the perspective of Julia. It's very neat to see more of this world and match events from a different pair of eyes. Still has that depressing overtone, still incredibly interesting and it adds a lot to the mix to help flesh out some of the world that the original didn't explore.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @jturiano It was quite interesting! It made bits of the 1984 world a bit more human with its exploration. Certainly doesn't do anything to replace the original, but as a companion piece, it's an interesting expansion. I also only found out about it after making a post about 1984 and having a fellow mastodonian recommend it! So I thought I'd share the knowledge!

    has been extremely good to me as of late. I stumbled upon the last two volumes of the novels that I was looking for and another in the set.

    Oh boy! It's been a weird battle, but I've finally got my running smoothly. I had some trouble with permissions, mounting drives on startup and more. Then when I solved that (thank you various resources online) I had power draw issues from dual external drives connected to the pi. Eventually got it to a point where it got all ironed out and I swapped the dual (2TB) drives for a single 4TB self powered drive and all is well.

    @mforester Thanks! Already been giving it a whirl. I've used Plex in the past but liked what I saw in JF (and I love the idea that it's foss).

    #SleepingDogs is $3 rn, and if you don't already own it then you should do yourself a favor and like... own it. It's a great game, if you like crime dramas, games that are like GTA but better (imo), and games that are fun.

    It's supported by #GeForceNow and works on #Linux / #SteamDeck via #Proton.

    @gamingonlinux I'm old. I still can't bring myself to categorize Doom and the original Fallouts as Bethesda games. I don't care how much money changed hands. Those games are not Bethesda games.

    I’m re-watching DS9 and Voyager on Paramount+ and last night was the episode where Captain Janeway says “There’s coffee in that nebula”. She really likes her coffee 😂

    I had a dream last night that reminded me of something I saw in the trailer for the game which I still have to play. It must have been the atmosphere.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @Monsterlady It's a good one though. I (way too often) start stuff and then leave it for something else and end up with a bunch of partly finished titles. Stray is actually one I need to get back to as well. Haha.

    I'm toying with the idea of setting up at home. I've already got a Pi4 running some plex software for in home streaming, so I figued I could tack onto that. Outside of initial setup, can anyone give me an idea of how much possible tweaking may be needed for personal family use? Any big things to note before starting? I use as much adblocking layers as I can already and simply despise ads.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickRae Ooh. That sounds lovely. Just one smart tv in the house but I'd not be surprised if it was doing that.
    Also thanks for the additional confirmation on the note that little extra work is needed.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickRae Yeah, that is the kind of thing that came to mind. All of a sudden a website doesnt load or an app locks up for my wife because the ads are being stopped. That's what I would classify as extra maintenance. Going in, seeing what particular spot is causing the issue, either stepping around it or whitelisting that one spot... stuff like that.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickRae Gottcha. Ha. Yeah. There's always different expectations when dealing with others. Thanks for the insight.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickRae Thanks for the offer! But it's certainly something I'd explore hands on to see how it all works. I love to know something inside out when working on it. Which is often achieved by just getting in and messing around with it.

    hush404,
    @hush404@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickRae I think Im alright. My initial curiosity was more a general wide ranging question on the scope of maintenance. Learning that its more or less tweaking block/white lists to personal need gives me a good idea of whats involved.
    Yeah, completely fine with updates to both pihole and the OS its on.
    Once I get the time to delve into, I'll reach out if something stumps me, thanks!
