Big Tech is trying to monopolize all communication and collaboration tools on the planet. This would be terrible for our future. The Open Source community needs to prevent this.

@Karlitschek Agreed. Home based needs to be made easier to fight and . Nextcloud AIO is looking promising with major release.

⭐️ Reminder that if you see a hashtag for an event, or conference, on Mastodon, that hashtag can be followed like any other account and will be delivered to your home timeline until you unfollow it

@akmur @galileo @stroughtonsmith I can see posts across different instances for hashtags I'm following but I'm on a very large server. Best way to find out is to follow some hashtags now and check.

I love the words that English borrowed from Arabic that have the definite article (= the) as part of the word: alcohol, algebra, alfalfa. Imagine if we had cohol, gebra, and falfa instead!

@PeterWyrm There's an interesting book written on the topic called Europe Speaks Arabic by Dr. V. AbdurRahim with many words originally from Arabic or transmitted through it.

The harassment targeting me has escalated to attempted murder. That is not hyperbole in any way. I will be talking with my lawyer and deciding which information can be published about this. Endless fabricated stories about me from Techlore and Calyx are directly to blame for it.

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@DanielMicay This is crazy and almost unbelievable. I can't understand how @techlore or @calyxinstitute could have anything to do with this. Politics and squabbles aside, we want all of these projects and their maintainers to prosper.

Please stay safe.

Smartphones With Popular Qualcomm Chip Secretly Share Private Information With US Chip-Maker https://www.nitrokey.com/news/2023/smartphones-popular-qualcomm-chip-secretly-share-private-information-us-chip-maker

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@nitrokey The Qualcomm Register article corrects 2 things:

  • Requests do not originate in Qualcomm firmware (corrected now)
  • They're publicly disclosed

The rest of it appears to be a lot of interpretation/analysis about why what it does is not really a big deal, it's anonymized info and people with high threat models should simply not use phones.

seems to confirm the rest of the claims in the Nitrokey article including the uploading of personal data but trivialises it!

Adding an easy way to create a Mastodon account on mastodon.social to the official app? Yes, please.

I don’t understand the drama around this. Not like it’s removing other instances, or the ability to switch instances afterwards. It just gives an easier way in for people who don’t understand the instances concept.

It’s a good thing. Anything that helps onboarding is a good thing, and no, it doesn’t mean the developer has gone evil or wants to centralize things. 🙄🙄

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP Maybe best to have a simple onboarding processing with signup to the .social instance by default but have an advanced/customised setup option prominently displayed for users who can handle the alleged complexity.

You know like those Windows program installers - except that "express setup" in this case won't install a bunch of spyware toolbars :)

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP Well then I can't understand all the fuss in the comments... Looks like Mastodon is doing defaults right.

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@runarcn @thelinuxEXP As long as it's a server that will be around... Some shut down just after a few months...

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP I think one of the issues making "oh you can switch instances later" impractical appears to be the lack of ability to transfer all your data (including posts) when you migrate...

Hopefully this feature is added to Mastodon in the future.

I struggle to read black text on a white background without using the cursor to help keep my place. Back when I was writing my dissertation in MS Word there was an option which would display the page with a blue background and white text. It made everything a lot easier. Google Docs doesn't seem to have this option. The suggestion is to make the page background blue and the text white - which applies to everyone who opens the doc. This is not suitable.

Any ideas for extensions etc?

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

@8none1
Another option is the Dark Reader browser extension... Certainly easier on the eyes than blue.

(1) For nearly twenty centuries, Jesus Christ has been the dominant figure in the history of Western culture. But who was Jesus of Nazareth? Was he God, Son of God, Son of Mary, a prophet of God or a mythical figure that never existed? As followers of Christ, how do we comprehend the reality of his mission and message?

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

(2) This audiobook presents an objective and analytical examination of the life of Jesus based on revealed scriptures and supported by references from major Western scholarly texts. It offers a precise, yet scholarly and comprehensive analysis of the person, mission and message of Jesus Christ.

islamicaudiobooks,
@islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

(3) Coming from a Christian background and holding a PhD in Theology from Saint David's College (University of Wales), the author is well-placed to guide the sincere Christian through a process of questioning, critical thinking and drawing logical conclusions based on established facts.
