On this day 10 years ago, Future Islands made their stellar debut on Letterman.

"This was the moment that the wider world really caught on. Letterman was delighted, the performance went viral, and Future Islands suddenly became a whole lot more famous."

"I don’t remember actually performing the song.
I was so overcome with the moment that I blacked out.
It was a life-changing moment, and it took me years to see the way that it opened up my life."

40 years ago today, Dead Can Dance released their self-titled debut.
The start of one of music's most intriguing artistic collaborations.

"We’ve got something weird between us, there is something between Brendan and I when we work together that is really strong, something I’ve never found with anyone else.
It hurts. There is pain, there are blessings, there are moments of great beauty." - Lisa Gerrard

It would be nice to have an option to automatically delete your replies to other people's deleted posts.

Lack of context and all, these monologues with the void rarely offer any worthwhile input for me personally anyway.

“Jews cannot fight antisemitism alone.

The victim cannot cure the crime.

The hated cannot cure the hate.

It would be the greatest mistake for Jews to believe that they can fight it alone.

The only people who can successfully combat antisemitism are those active in the cultures that harbour it.”

Remember the discussion boards on IMDB film listings before Amazon decided to get rid of them in 2017?

I always loved getting additional movie insights.

'MovieChat' has backed up millions of posts for IMDB's top 10,000 movies/shows and added them to its ever-growing database of user-based discussions.

When you use the 'New IMDB Message Boards - Moviechat' script, they are integrated directly into the IMDB page itself just like old times.

Already intrigued by the title card for "Deutsches Haus", which uses the Tannenberg font as a shadow.

Subtle but very effective.

"German House/The Interpreter of Silence follows Eva, a young woman in 1963 Frankfurt, as she takes a job as the interpreter for the first Auschwitz trial of former SS officers.
It’s only here that she fully begins to grasp the true horrors of the Nazi regime and starts to uncover a personal connection to the camp."

Trying to stomach the recent "hero" statements from Hamas/PIJ terrorists¹

The Clash - "Tommy Gun"

"An' we can watch him make it on the nine o'clock news
Standin' there in Palestine lightin' the fuse"

"You'll be dead when war is won
But did you have to gun down everyone?"

"You can be a hero in an age of none"

"So let's agree about the price
And make it one jet airliner for ten prisoners"

"I see all the innocent, the human sacrifice
And if death comes so cheap
Then the same goes for life"

From his recent book "Trouble in Paradise":

"In a strictly homologous way, the Zionist defenders of the Israeli policy want us to know that they control the media (TV and press), preventing too much critique of Israel to appear in them; however, while we are allowed to know this
(in order to fear the Zionists’ power), we are not allowed to talk about it publicly
—the moment we do it, we are accused of anti-Semitism."

Seine Fragen zu ihrem Werk sind Kommentare, Bewertungen und Belehrungen.

Doch sie bleibt widerständig und sät Zweifel darüber, wer hier eigentlich wen verhört."

I know, a choice between plague and cholera BUT I would rather people chose Threads than BlueSky as their walled garden of choice.

BlueSky is still a closed silo with no account/invite.

And there are no plans to make the AT protocol it uses interoperable with ActivityPub(AP)¹ ².

Meta's Threads should at least be compatible with AP³, and could be scrapeable for RSS bots like Twitter is via Nitter e.g.

There are already working RSS feeds (for a fee!) for Threads accounts, for example⁴.

"During the Great Depression, Detroit and its auto-industry suffered an exceptional amount.
After the stock market crash of 1929, around 80 percent of the industry was no longer producing and by 1932 large numbers of citizens were dying of starvation.
The Ford Motor Company, one of the richest employers, had laid off two-thirds of its employees.

On the morning of 7 March 1932, 3,000 former and current Ford workers and other unemployed members of the community gathered on the outskirts.

"Daft Punk intended to make a video for the song "Human After All", but the footage they shot for it was expanded to create the film Daft Punk's Electroma instead.

The only official statement given by Daft Punk at the time was: "We believe that Human After All speaks for itself".

De Homem-Christo later said that choosing to be silent was the biggest mistake they had ever made."

"The two lead characters appear as the robotic forms of Daft Punk. One wears a silver helmet and the other wears a golden one. An opening scene shows the duo driving in a 1987 Ferrari 412 with its license plate displaying "HUMAN". After passing through a Southwestern United States landscape, the duo arrives by car at a town in Inyo County, California. The town's residents are also shown to be robots physically identical to the two main characters, but at different ages, with different clothing and alternating gender. The pair drive to a high-tech facility where liquid latex is poured over their heads. The latex is shaped into human-like faces with the aid of prosthetic appliances and wigs. The resulting look caricaturizes the members of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. When the two leave the facility, the locals of the town are shocked by their human appearance. The townsfolk gradually begin to chase the duo, whose faces eventually melt in the sun. The two take cover in a public restroom where the gold robot discards his ruined mask, then encourages the reluctant silver robot to do the same. Exiting the restroom they appear as robots again."

If there's one thing I've learned from the enshitification of Big Social, it's that most users are willing to stick with whatever companies throw at them.

As long as their needs are met, whether it's celebrity accounts, 'Likes' or their peer groups, they won't leave.

Pointing to legitimate flaws as an indicator of the imminent demise of these platforms (existing or new) doesn't take into account how few of them actually care.
