A MEMS microphone exploded on me earlier, oh well, at least I got to take macro-shot now :3

(pardon all the dust on there 🙈)

I think I have teased this already, so here it is:
Proudly presenting “ligra”, an open source projector/projection (LiGra – Light Graffiti) platform, allowing you to broadcast your messages, your logos, your artwork, whatever you need others to hear, to whoever sees it! :3

With ligra I wanted to explore image-projection and especially projections on the cheap, so I went to my local flea market and built a platform around old camera lenses. You can find two of them in the wild at #GPN22

Almost exactly the same picture except the foreground, ligra is now heavily out of focus and the background is in focus. It is set behind an out of focus railing. The main subject is a white wall, framed in its enormous hall and pillars. It is glanced in purple red light, red light is coming from various sources in the image. There is a large white projection on the wall, it says “kein mensch ist illegal”. The projection is textured and has print marks, but no distinguishable pixels

It’s fairly easy to build and straight forward in its functional principle. ligra is simply a camera working backwards.

Right behind its (canon FD) lens it hosts a 2D printed piece of foil that has ruffly the size of a 35mm sensor. On it the image to be projected.

The whole apparatus is illuminated by a simple, single LED light source and I already have used just a flashlight there.

I never really published this, so here it is. Whenever I need a vertical USB-C power receptacle that is flush with the PCB, I use this tiny 90° adapter that I designed. It hosts a power-only type-C connector, 2 5.1k resistors and a 4.7uF MLCC, if needed.

It’s super easy to assemble and adds almost no cost. The matching footprint is in my KiCAD library allows for a super sturdy mount. I love to use these vertical connectors :3

(If you are curious about the projector, will open source it soon 🙈)

Closeup of the USB-C receptacle with no cable plugged in. Its opening is recessed in the board, the connector is otherwise invisible. There is a green terminal connector to the left. The board has a lot of ray-like printed structures, a beaker with an orange substance is blurred in the background
Closeup of the backside of the PCB, showing the mechanical connection of the USB-C vertical connector. It is soldered down with three large fillets. It is a very small PCB, hosting the receptacle on its back side
Top down photo of the backside, the USB-C receptacle is also soldered down on this side with two fillets, the board hosting the connector also hosts two resistors

Hardware design is actually all about finding capacitors that match your PCB in color.

janamarie,
@janamarie@chaos.social avatar

@gkrnours never did, but that's a fantastic idea! I don't think larger manufacturers wouldn't do that for smaller runs, but I bet some smaller Chinese manufacturer would be happy to run your own design

@janamarie@chaos.social avatar

@gsuberland @gkrnours I’ve got myself the very red, German ones this time. They will go amazing with the black PCB :D
