Well... I wanted to look into compiling MS-DOS 4.0 after Microsoft released the sources today.

Looks like it won't compile from scratch because the conversion to git killed some characters and inlined byte-sequences :(

https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/blob/main/v4.0/src/SELECT/USA.INF

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

@felsqualle maybe bring it to @shanselman attention. As far as I understand it, he was vital in releasing it to the public. The issue tracker is probably not enabled, is it?

Tapping the sign:

You don't take meeting notes for the people in the meeting. You take them for people who aren't in the meeting.

That includes three-months-from-now-you, who also isn't in the meeting.

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

@xahteiwi Something no one in my company understands. I was on PTO for like 6 days and I do not know shit about anything. When I was young and full of vigor, I went back and tried actively to collect all information that might be relevant. I don't do that no more. If people want me to know something, they better have some meetings notes or a handover or something. Documentation really is the last thing anyone ever wants to do.

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

@xahteiwi @railmeat If it was that easy ;). I would not say that I do not work with professionals. I tried to build a team like that – but at a certain point they also have to "let you", i.e. the company needs to be structured and willing to work like that. Especially in a large enterprise company. A lot also depends on the systemic environment you need to operate in. Without being to go into specifics publicly.

Blame @czottmann, I stole the idea from him! All shows, movies, games, talks, podcasts and (audio-)books I consumed in March https://jason.re/post/media-diet-march-2024/. Thanks for the idea Carlo, I hope it sticks and I'll keep it up 😅

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

@grillchen @holgi @rstockm Spannend.

I really, really wanted to ditch Google Chrome because of their constant enshittification and their stance on blocking ads. But Safari makes it very hard for me to love it. The plugin system is far worse compared to Chrome, the UI feels wonky and the UX is average at best. I loved Safari's "iCloud Tabs" integration, but that is about it.

Now with the recent changes in iOS 17.4 to comply with EU's Digital Markets Act, it might be time to re-visit using Google Chrome as my main browser on the iPhone.

I also tried Firefox, but it is even challenged rendering my very tiny crappy blog. Don't get me wrong, Safari is challenged in that department too, but if I compare the rendering of Safari, Chrome and Firefox, Firefox is clearly the outlier, being often the only browser to render it "wrong" or just "differently".

I will take another look at Firefox in June, when the "Manifest v3 API" is live, and the ramifications and restrictions for ad blocking plugins is a bit more palpable for me.

„Was könnte die Politik denn machen?

Was zur Hölle?!

I really wanted to give Safari a chance and I really, really tried. I totally dig their "cloud tabs" feature. But I never had more issues with non-working or glitching websites in my life. The plugin and extension system feels horribly clunky.

And do not reply and try to convert me to use "Firefox" please. I tried it, its not for me.

jason,
@jason@click.ba.it avatar

@czottmann I did not test Brave, Vivaldi or Orion. I was burned by Opera once, since then I vowed not to use any "niche" browser ever again 😆. I am always "the lucky one" that will use a browser which is then not properly supported anymore or the company who makes it runs into financial turmoil – or is even going bankrupt.

I have tried Edge, but as Google, they are "improving" the browser too much. For me, Edge quickly reached a level of "enshityification" that is too much for me.

I will probably end up compiling my own Chromium. Though I will miss the feature to look up tabs from my other Chrome installations – and it will be a pain in the ass to install updates and fixes. My main reason for trying Safari again was the very good iOS and macOS integration.

Update 2024-01-17 13:05 UTC:

THANK YOU EVERYONE! Thas was quick, I have a copy now. Also thank you for reminding me of archive.org - I always tend to forget them. Shame on me!

Fediverse, I am in dire need to acquire an ISO for a Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 (US English). Can anyone help and provide me a downloadable, original ISO?

Microsoft Premier Support cannot help me and I need the database software to migrate to a newer version to finally retire this piece of 💩.

Boost appreciated!

    @chris does that mean you cannot control the temperature in your own apartment? I am genuinely confused 😅

    jason,
    @jason@click.ba.it avatar

    @chris Big Oof. So theoretically it should be x degrees in every room in every appartment? That means the heating in your appartment is broken/misconfigured somewhere in the central system? Interesting concept.

    jason,
    @jason@click.ba.it avatar

    @chris but the concept then is totally broken, isn't it? Will you get a way to change the heat yourself in the appartment in the future? I am totally amazed that this is a common and accepted way for heating. Fascinating!

    @Viss Ah, interesting. I dont see them in my client. I had to go to your profile as they were posted "unlisted".

    Ugh all the wrong decisions. Was in a VMware call today about our company's strategic direction in regards to VMware products. I guess I have to be in another one very soon.

    jason,

    @Viss Oh, one was unlisted and one was public. But I still dont see them in my client when I visit your profile through Ivory. Weird 🤔 (screenshot from your profile that shows one is unlisted). But why do I not see any reposts when I use the client. That is wild.
