so much for "it doesn't make sense to dmca IPFS gateways," DMCA don't care, DMCA just harass.

Originally Today's tip. 😅

Issues brushing your teeth? Because you're never near the toothbrush when you think about it? 🤔

Get a kid one with a suction cup, and just put it somewhere convenient.
This is my kitchen toothbrush, since yesterday. 😅

That means if I'm downstairs or in the kitchen and feel like I should/want to brush my teeth I don't have to go upstairs.

This is also relevant for if you have or or something and your only bathroom is on another floor than your spend most of your day.

jonny,
@jonny@neuromatch.social avatar

@maloki
this rocks. one of the few gimmick-gadgety things that I would totally use is like a lighter-sized solid object with a toothbrush, a few squeezes of paste, and a thimble of water so I could just brush my teeth as a fidget lol

ok rebuilding scholarly communication is a mostly social problem but you do need to know a little bit about the internet so you know what is possible beyond just a really big arxiv you can search with google

jonny,
@jonny@neuromatch.social avatar

arguably yes the thing that would be good is just to use the internet like normal and have documents that are websites that link to each other but clearly there is more to it than that

HOsy, to random

Why is there still no collaboration platform where app developers can offer to translate other apps?

In return, the developer would translate your own app into their native language. To make it fair, the apps should be classified into sizes (based on the number of characters to be translated).

A database with approved translations from other developers would also make sense.

jonny,
@jonny@neuromatch.social avatar

@HOsy
@cashew
it sounds hard to implement, but I rly like the idea of being able to choose between multiple translations, rather than having a single authoritative translation per app, for all the reasons you describe.

Today I heard the term "acoustic bike" to mean a non-electric one. You know, just a regular bike. I like a good pun as much as the next neckbeard, but this is obfuscatory AND isn't even a good pun. Oh well.

I feel like myst, with (humane) roles and directives and stuff like block-level attrs, and notebooks with typed cells and a JSON serialization very close to the surface illustrate different constraints and opportunities here. layering many-to-many relationships between interfaces, markup syntaxes, and parsed/serializable ASTs is the way forward imo.

one thing that is still TODO afaik is making new cell type declarations (in notebook parlance) or new roles/directives (in MyST) much more portable and serializable along with the document. Notebooks have this longstanding problem where they are often not packaged correctly, so you'll be missing dependency specification or supporting data. MyST directives (and all other sphinx directives, I've only ever used MyST in sphinx for transparency) are similar, in that it is not immediately obvious what you would need to have to correctly render eg. a {mermaid} block.

once you have that, I think documents become very interesting, a document-level dependency and linking syntax would let ya do all the cool stuff programming languages can do with proper package management, building and reusing tools, etc. also could make translation easier, having a meta-layer to declare relationships between cell/directive types rather than needing to implement it all in a single package like pandoc.

anyway @cian you aren't alone and to write LaTeX is to suffer. I hate it, but I also love it.

The new ".zip" domain is being used almost solely for malware. Some of the clicks are very deceptive, even to technically knowledgeable people. See the attached image for an example.

You can block all zip domains with the following uBlock Origin rule:

||zip^

Tell everyone you know.

Does anyone use mastodon as an provider? Ideally we would like to allow members of our instance to use their masto account to log in to a and instance rather than having three accounts, but I have never tried doing SSO before and can't really find any examples. help plz? boost welcome

jonny,
@jonny@neuromatch.social avatar

@Ninjaneer
yes I got that far but haven't figured out how to actually implement lol, haven't had much time and didn't find many examples. if I figure one out I'll put it on our wiki and in the extension docs on the mediawikiwiki so other masto instances can use.

jonny,
@jonny@neuromatch.social avatar

also how did you find this post lol I am curious how the masto <-> kbin federation works
