kjr, to kbin

I am totally impressed.
I joined https://kbin.social/ a couple of days ago, and the instance has less than 600 users (I think maybe 400?)
Last days gained momentum quite fast. Now it has more than 10000 users.

Let us see how the instance grows when Monday a big chunk of Reddit goes dark.

kjr,

@Lazycog in kbin I like that it combines threads and miniblogging.

I'm curious to know what this instance can be:
https://daystorm.netz.org/about

It looks like an spammer, almost 1.5 million users but no posts in the local thread.

jupiter_rowland, to fediversenews

@Fediverse News Some of the projects in the #Fediverse that offer #groups or #forums have #test groups which come in handy if you want to test the compatibility of the project you're using (or developing) with that particular other project.

#Guppe has a test group on a.gup.pe.

#Lemmy has test communities on lemmy.ml, on Sopuli and for German users on Feddit.

#kbin has a test magazine on kbin.social.

I am not aware of test forums on #Friendica, #Hubzilla and #Streams, though. If they exist, maybe you can name them in the comments.

If they don't exist, I think it'd be worth creating them so that developers of other projects can test the compatibility of their projects with the old #FederatedSocialWeb guard and its most recent offspring without spamming existing forums.

kjr,

@jupiter_rowland @fediversenews Just curious, what is streams? I cannot find any information about.

kjr,

@jupiter_rowland Thanks a lot !!

When you use ChatGPT, do you start a new conversation per topic, or do you discuss all topics in the same long-running conversation?

kjr,

@stuartcw @evan You can start over in the same chat with one or two promps explaining that you close the actual argument and it had to start as an agent with a new role.

kjr,

@stuartcw @evan Right. Here I have to say that the results are experimental, nothing in production.

Hubzilla test #3: Regular post with a regular mentioin instead of a deliverable one

@Test magazine

Either kbin.social is slow, or my first two test posts didn't make it for some reason. So here's something even more basic and quite un-Hubzilla-like.

kjr,

@jupiter_rowland I have seen your post but as microblogging, not as thread.

Meta will be always Meta….

Meta’s Twitter Alternative Will Probably Be Called ‘Threads’

Meta opted to use the open, decentralized social networking protocol ActivityPub(Opens in a new window) for this project, which is already used by Mastodon. That doesn’t guarantee interoperability between the two competing services, but could certainly make it easier for Mastodon accounts to migrate to Project 92. The reverse is also possible, but it seems unlikely Meta would want to make it easy for accounts to migrate away from its ecosystem.

Mark Zuckerberg's Meta recently demonstrated a preview version of its Twitter alternative, which is known internally as "Project 92." https://www.pcmag.com/news/metas-twitter-alternative-will-probably-be-called-threads

kjr,

@GlowingLantern @PCMag
The last paragraph of the text shows that it will be highly problematic:

"Meta opted to use the open, decentralized social networking protocol ActivityPub(Opens in a new window) for this project, which is already used by Mastodon. That doesn't guarantee interoperability between the two competing services, but could certainly make it easier for Mastodon accounts to migrate to Project 92. The reverse is also possible, but it seems unlikely Meta would want to make it easy for accounts to migrate away from its ecosystem."

kjr,

@realcaseyrollins @itchy_lizard @Bicyclejohn
In my opinion it is almost the opposite.

Innocent bystanders of our carbon addiction and future heatwaves threaten animals globally.

In a new paper in the journal Nature, a group of researchers led by Dr. Gopal Murali (from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel; currently at the University of Arizona, USA) tried to tackle this problem.

They used species data for most land-vertebrate species (33,548 species of amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles) regarding recent exposure to maximum temperatures, to predict the effects of future extreme temperatures by the end of the 21st century.

Species’ current distribution ranges and projections of future climates under different emission scenarios were utilized.

They found that while thousands of species are likely to be exposed to future heatwaves, the number of exposed species is much higher under high-emissions scenarios when compared to a scenario that reduces our dependence on fossil fuels.

Russia fines Wikipedia owner for failing to delete Azov battalion content -Ifax

A Russian court on Tuesday fined the Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia, 3 million roubles ($36,854) for refusing to delete an article on Ukraine’s Azov battalion, the Interfax news agency reported.

Wikimedia could not immediately be reached for comment. It has previously said information that Russian authorities complained about was well-sourced and in line with Wikipedia standards.

I've been on for a few months, but I'm just becoming aware of , which looks pretty cool as a content aggregator and micro-blogging hybrid platform! Has anyone messed with it enough to have an opinion yet?

Also, I just discovered you can subscribe to kbin magazines on Lemmy as if it were a community. I'm assuming this works in reverse. The fediverse rocks.

kjr,

@ADHDefy I have bin in since a couple of days and I am quite happy with both, aggregator and microblogging.
About the subscription from Kbin to Lemmy communities, it works quite well. The same about subscription and publication in groups of a.gup.pe
It doesn't have yet an android app, but the mobile browser app is OK.

Anyway, to increase my vegan recipe repertoire, I've made soya milk (not awful, not my favourite thing), oat milk (minging) and of course I'm familiar with coconut milk. I'm not especially taken with almond and hazel nut milks I've tried. Are there any others I should try making, that are nice?

kjr,

@cabd I recommend you to try cashew milk. It is easy to prepare and creamy.

kjr,

@cabd
I have started a group in kbin.social about plant based milk.
If you want, you can follow and post there from Mastodon too.
